  1. I took my 1964 MK1 1500 for its MOT and the tester told me that the offside inner and outer track control arm bush needs replacing, as i have the early type welded arms (which look different to the later cast type) i would like to know which type of bush i need, because when looking for replacements i have seen different types of bush and as i am going to replace inner and outer on both sides of the car, could someone please tell me which ones i need? and if possible some pics of the ones i need would be helpful. Many thanks
  2. Problem solved! when i dismantled the BRAND NEW! carb i found that the main jet was the wrong size / the accelerator pump ball bearing seems to be either stuck or missing/ and the accelerator pump jet was not even fitted!. So i have used the emulsion block and float chamber from my old carb and now the car is running like a well oiled sewing machine, so i shall be very wary in future of buying parts that are supposed to fit this car and are advertised as being BRAND NEW!. Many thanks to the members who pointed me in the right direction to solve this problem.
  3. Thats a good point about the jets,no it did not happen with the old carb, i bought the brand new carb because it was for a ford cortina mk1 i just assumed that the jets would be the same size as the old carb, so i will change the jets over from the old carb and see if this fixes the problem. RHL.
  4. Need some advice with this please. My 1964 MK1 1500 has a problem with the carb, i have fitted a new ZENITH VN2 carb to the car and now there is a bad flat spot when you open the throttle from idling, i have checked the ignition timing with a strobe light and its spot on fitted new points, and i have tried adjusting the carb settings all to no avail!, the car starts fine and idles fine but no matter what i do the flat spot is still there, is there something that i have missed? as i am now stuck on where to go next with this problem so any help would be very welcome. Cheers RHL.
  5. Hi i know this is slightly off topic but how is the metal breather housing attached to the fuel pump housing? is it threaded or is it pushed fitted, because i want to remove the housing from my engine but i am unsure of how it is attached. MK1 1500 1964 PRE CROSSFLOW PRE AIRFLOW. Thanks
  6. Hello Does anyone know where i can obtain the rubber hose that is attached to the metal engine breather pipe? because mine has just fallen into lots of pieces when i was cleaning the breather pipe. Car is 1964 1500 mk1 pre crossflow. Many thanks :(
  7. Hi i looking for a pair of front brake drums 8.78 inch/ 223mm for a 1964 mk1 1500, in reasonable usable condition please, or any alternative ones that will fit. Many thanks.
  8. What a b@@@@@d of a job! tried all the given advice but the joint still would not budge, so in the end i ended up removing the strut and track control arm from the car! and once on the bench i managed to remove the two ball joint retaining bolts and this left me the TCA with ball joint attached i then heated up the end of the tca with two blowlamps! taking care not to damage the plastic joint insert and when hot i used my fork splitter to attack the joint and it still took two lots of heating and a lot of beating to free the joint and all this just to replace a £2.50 boot!. I shall make sure that on reassembly i use plenty of anti sieze copper grease to try to prevent a reoccurence of this. So thanks for your advice on this subject people.
  9. Hi All I am replacing the gaitors on my front suspension (MK1 1500) and i am unable to free the track control arm from the ball joint on the bottom of the strut, i have spring clamps on the strut i have removed the nut from the ball joint yet no matter how hard i try with my ball joint removal tool i cannot get the joint to break, could someone please tell me what i am doing wrong or is there some other hidden nut somewhere that i need to remove? as i have now run out of ideas on how to get this job completed. Many thanks
  10. Afternoon all Was checking my steering today(1964 MK1 1500 DELUXE) and i have found a split gaiter on the nearside outer track rod, so i had a good look around the rest of the front setup and also found the gaiter on the ball joint at the bottom of the track control arm was also shot. As these items are now part of the MOT test they need to be replaced, the ball joints are in good condition so i just need to replace the gaiters, i have done the gaiters on track rod ends before but i have not done one on a track control arm and i would like to know if it is a straightforward job to do or does the whole strut have to be removed to do the job? and if the job can be done with the strut in situ is a spring clamp needed or can the ball joint just be released from the strut in the same way as the track rod end is ie with a big hammer!!. And finally can any member recommend anywhere to buy the rubber boots from? i have seen a site on Ebay but i am not sure which size boots i need so perhaps somebody could advise me on this please. Many thanks
  11. I am thinking of converting my 1964 MK1 1500 DELUXE to an alternator and i would like some advice please, i know that i have to convert the car to neg earth and swap the coil connections but i am unsure if any other component needs its polarity changing. I would also like to know what alternator will fit /what brackets i need for the new alternator and can the control box under the parcel shelf be removed or does it need to be left in situ but modified, and does any member know where i can obtain the parts i need for this conversion or does anyone on here have the parts i need for sale? i would prefer good second hand parts to keep the costs down. Many thanks
  12. Many thanks for your replys and advice, i took the regulator off its mounts and have checked its open circuit voltage which was way to high so i adjusted the voltage regulator ( that was tricky as it is fitted with those cam type adjusters so i had to cobble up a makeshift tool to adjust it,) i have now got the voltage down to what the lucas bulletin i downloaded from the net says is correct (14.8 volts at a dynamo speed of approx 1500RPM so i will be keeping an eye on the voltage levels for a while to make sure all is well. Many thanks to everyone.
  13. Hi I need some advice please. i have just fitted a voltmeter to the car (MK1 1500 1964) and when i started the car i was suprised to see it go straight up in to the red top end range of the meter which is 16 volts. So when the engine went back to idle the reading dropped to approx 12.5 volts so i switched off and left the car overnight to allow the battery to settle, this morning i checked the battery voltage with my multimeter before starting the car and it was 12.68 i then started the engine and at approx 2000 rpm checked the battery again with my multimeter and the reading was fluctuating between 16.07 and 16.10 volts!! and at idle speed it is still 12.78 volts, this is surely far to high and i was wondering what the problem might be because if this reading stays high like this then will it damage the battery. Could the problem be the regulator? and if so how can you check this component and is it adjustable for voltage setting?. Sorry if the post is a bit long winded but i wanted to give as much info as possible. Many thanks
  14. Hi, They're definately NOT 1/4 NPT - and this seems like the right one and possibly the only other size Ford fitted!!(advert states 1/8 NPT) : http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574629005&toolid=10001&campid=5335900709&customid=&mpre=http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ANGLIA-CORTINA-CAPRI-MORGAN-OIL-PRESSURE-SWITCH-NOS-AC-/220770246211?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3366ee9e43#ht_1955wt_754 Hope this helps!! Yes this is the correct size (1/8 NPT) for the car thanks for your help Barnstormer.
