  2. the pics on the net of mine are from the guy i bought it from, mainly shows around the kent area, he had the car 13 years, longest of any owner. im in my 3rd year now
  3. Cheers mate, appreciate your comment, not 100% decided, but leaning towards keeping it blue, dont really fancy taking the engine out and re doing the whole engine bay again, been blue 16 years now too.
  4. cheers mate, just as i thought, looking forward to getting them done
  5. Thats cool, might be worth a try, if you dont try , you'll never know right!
  6. when I get mine re painted ill stick with Light blue, all been done properly in the past engine bay etc so, be less hassle to stay light blue, plus its always been that colour for me and i do like it, and its also been blue for 16 years now so!
  7. cheers mate, yeah , could of spent £500, but really is worthwhile doing it your self, get much more out of it
  8. Did you do the top strip edges of the cappings too? wonderd what you did on the curves? or did you just sand them back to wood and blend the veneer into it? (If that makes sense?) also what about the edges of the door caps? veneer those little bits and again fine sand them in? hope this makes sense? lol ill order more veneer this week i guess its easier to know what to do as your doing it really. yeah your right you defo have to cut the clove box door out and use the cut to cover the door to keep the grain matching.
  9. well the Finished Dash is finally on the car! Must say i am pleased with the results, i will now gladly give the door tops ago to match.
  10. Cheers mate, ive got the plaques from these shows, the owner i bought it from in 2013 gave me all the previous show plaques,he had the car 13 years, would love to find the ower before him. or any of the previous owners.
  11. all very interesting mate, even if we never find out the full history, would love to find some old pics of the car still white! guess thats where old owners come in if they happen to still be with us or at their adresses.
  12. Thanks Guys really appreciate ally your replies, all very interesting, even if i never find out, ill dig a bit more before giving up. thanks again
  13. Cheers socket! will take pics when on the car too, this pic doesnt really do it justice (the light) im happy with my effort, really appreciate all the advice and info, without that i might not of atempted it! so a big thanks mate!
  14. 4-5 coats of lacquer later and i think im happy now! time to put it back together ready to go on the car, giving me another one to do along with the door tops.
  15. hi mate, thanks, the veneer i bought had a sticky back on, so just peeled the paper off and stuck it, anything to avoid contact adesive has to be good lol saved alot of time and mess tbh The heat gun i used to help remove the old veneer and finish, took about 10-15 mins. will post more pics as I do more
  16. Hi Guys, dont know if anyone on here can shed any light on a few things? I recently got the DVLA infomation on my 1600e (1969) the DVLA tell me that there is no records of the car with them untill 1976 as the car was registerd with the local authority?! so on the list of owners it starts with owner 2 who aquired the car in 1980! so i find it strange there a missing 11 years??? what could the local authority be ? any ideas? also my cortina is Light blue, ive also just discoverd it originally was WHITE!! that was a shock as I always thought it was originally light blue! I was planing on getting it painted in the near future, so IF YOUS were me what would you do? Keep it the light blue it is? OR go back to the original white? I must admit I do love the blue and its alot more unusual than white obvioulsy, just wonder what you guys would do if it was you car? and appreciate any info on what the local authority could be? any of your cars the same? and Lastly anyone ever come across the car? CLL691H ? just find all the history of the car Fascinating. thanks Tony
  17. heres the current pic of the dash, 4-5 coats of dye (cloth applied) deciding on my next move
  18. Pharaoh what colour did you stain the bits you sold?
  19. Heres My Progress pics so far, must say im very pleased with my effort! Have the before pic, then once the veneer was removed and sanded down , then the veneer complete and screw holes drilled and finally the inside of the glove box door and screw holes drilled. So far Ive spent £25 on the dash itself, £30 on the veneer , £10 on a heat gun , £5 on sanding pads and tack cloths and time wise about 5 hours so far, once on the car I may then refurb the one currently on there to sell or keep as spare. ill post more pics as i progress , prob wont be till the weekend now tho.
  20. Im Underway! will post pics asap!!
  21. really appeciate the advice socket! defo giving this ago! thanks mate
  22. Thats brilliant mate! looks excellent!! I would of paid the money if i had too! BUT i think i could do a Job on my dash! so thats defo the road im going down! appreciate the reply, and sharing the Link! brilliant mate  i'll have to post results once done, wish i posted this last week now as im off this week! could of got it done! still no rush, right done the first step Veneer orderd! :)
  23. seriously thats brilliant , and looks like you've done an awesome job! i do have a spare dash so if i did mess it up, i still have the one thats already on the car. so its either I give it a go or pay out £500 to get it done! would be very satisfying to do it myself tho! so with your dash did you place the veneer over the whole thing, then trim away where the openings were? leaving the few mm overhang to then sand down to size? and the varnish was clear? what gritt of sandpaper did you find best to use? apperciate the advice! and its great to see you acheived such a great result! im off for a measure up in the car then!
  24. Wow looks excellent mate! what did you use? and what was your process? is it american walnut?
  25. Oh Cool, really appreciate that mate! Im a decorator by trade , and defo with the right advice id be happy to give it ago! look forward to seeing your pics mate, Thank you
