MK5 Cortina Carousel Restoration

Removed the seats and carpet today in preparation for work on the drivers floor pan and chassis rail replacement. I also now have the scutle ends along with the replacement wings so pretty much sorted for the panels I needed. -

I love the two tone green of my carousel. After I have finished the restoration I will be having her resprayed the same colour obviously. I wonder how many are left... -

Thank you, yes I will remember the battery lol. I am going to start with the wing rails and then the scutle before I even think about the underneath. -

Hi all. So I have the welder, I am practising and practising before I go near the car. I am currently winning an ebay for the scutle end replacements, then I need to also repair the wing rails and finally the underneath of the drivers seat area, chassis rail and other parts in that area. It feels like I have a hell of a lot to do, and I probably do but I have no other restorations to compare it to. The rest of the car body is in good shape as is the interior and the engine and gearbox that have gone is come from another 1.6 Cortina that ran lovely. Positive comments and advice welcome  -

Okay. So the welder is working great, just put a plug on it and no problems. I am still practising before I go near the car with it lol. I have been practising without gas but I am going to get some gas and practice with that as I have been told it will be better with gas. Question, is there a best place to buy sheet metal? What type would I need and what size thickness as I am going to be repairing the scutle and also the chassis, around the front floor pan area. -

I actually thought I could just buy a welder and start welding lol. Well I guess the only way to find out is fit the plug, turn it on and see what happens! -

Thanks. Love that brochure. Mine has the wind open, slide back sunroof, electric aerial and a few other things, I also have those wheels still on her. -

 Okay...power for the welder. It has no plug on it, from what I have read this is normal. Do I just stick a normal plug on it? From what I am reading on a welding site I wouldn't get any power if I do that and run an extension lead to use it plus I may blow fuses. So how do I power my welder and use it effectively. Ahhh -

I think it was 18 additional feature options for the carousel, trim, tinted glass, wind open sunroof, adjustable head restraints which at that time were not standard, electric aerial, other GL features to like the centre console and fascia and the fact they only made 6000 of them is pretty cool itself where if you think of like the crusader there was if I remember reading correctly something like 30 thousand or so made so not really limited edition, or as limited edition as the carousel. -
I was just wondering how many other people on here owned a MK5 Cortina Carousel and if you could post a picture of yours. I am restoring mine at the moment and would be great to see some others and know how many there are.

Hi mate Okay the gutter trim was really badly broken and corroded, sorry, and I removed hinge cover, will send a pic later. I also removed this trim from all the doors which is actually in great condition, no dents or marks.

I did it and invested in a welder, it has just been delivered! :playball: -
Okay, I am going to be removing bits from the car this evening and tomorrow as it is being collected Thursday. No interest on the glass apart from the windscreen so just going to leave it in the car.
-
What is it exactly you need mate? The car isn't going until next weekend now so I have a bit more time to remove things. Do you want glass or was it trim?
