I would tighten to spec and use threadlock on the clutch plate bolts: HAYNES WORKSHOP MANUAL CORTINA MK III 1300/1600 > 'Pressure plate cover to flywheel bolts - 15 lb ft' But other than that I wouldn't really worry about tightening to spec or using any threadlock on the rest, just feel it by hand and get them tightened up properly.

I managed to get it sorted using an Oxy Acetylene gas torch setup (the bottles for which were about 6ft tall) - a friend of mine had the gear leftover from when he worked in a local engineering firm. We used wetted rags (kept wet throughout, using a spray bottle) to keep the heat away from the rubber 'spring' below and the rubber dampener above, then used the torch to put as much heat as possible into the middle section as quickly as possible. Then just a simple slight tweak to the shape whilst it was sitting in the vice. We also moved it over to the right, before it was angled toward the driver (LHD). It now sits much better, it self-centres right where you'd expect, so you can instantly tell from a slight glance/feel that it is in neutral. Still has a slight rearward rake just to avoid going too near the centre console under the dash.

It's certainly an option (albeit one complicated by the dampening rubber just above the bend), I just wanted to explore any options in case Ford had already made them

Does anybody know if Ford produced any models with straight gear levers for Type 9 boxes? I have gone Type 9 5spd in my Granada but the bent lever gets in the way of the handbrake, so I'm looking for a straight type. I don't think I want to go for one of the aftermarket versions, which tend to be straight, as they all seem to be 'performance' orientated. This is just a standard road car, I don't need a quick shift kit or anything like that.

The reason why I was asking about your current set up is because I was going to suggest Securon belts, these are go-to modern replacement belts for classics here in the UK. They have many different designs to suit all applications. Burton's always apply a considerable price mark-up so you may be best trying to find a seller on eBay who will ship internationally, or a local Securon stockist? I haven't yet seen your interior but I will say that you may need the long stalks because of the mounting location and seat adjustability? The only things I would add to Craig's info dump, is that 2000 V4 Bakkies also came with standard profile bonnets. Also, since SA has been mentioned it is worth pointing out that late Cortina MK5 bakkies came with 5-stud wheels and the South Africans did also have special limited edition 'Springbok' cars and pickups in the green and gold livery.

Although having said that - I don't know why it needs to be plugged in either. Just check that you have 12 volts between one of the pins and the other surely? One is a switched feed from the heater controls and one must be an earth/ground connection.

Try plugging the connection to the fan in most of but not all of the way so that you have enough room to shove a multimeter pin down the side to contact with one of the pins, and then the other?
