Hello, I have a steel wheel that fits either the "L" or base model. It has slots in so I don't know if that's what you want. I have a MK5 GL and when I bought it this was it's spare until I found the correct one. I'm pretty sure that it is the same as was fitted to my Mk4 company Cortinas back in the 1970s. You are welcome to it (no charge) although the tyre is probably not legal. I have found a decent hub cap that even looks unused. I am based in Ringwood Hampshire but a friend who lives in Chobham is coming down tomorrow and staying overnight. Thanks for the response. I will pull the cable from the autobox tomorrow and take a picture of the gear end. Of course mine has only 17 teeth but it will give you the idea. The 20 teeth gears are supposed to be orange in colour but the transmission fluid seems to wash the colour out! Regards and thanks, Dave

Thanks for the information. According to the manual the speedo reading is controlled by various combinations of the shaft in the box and the gear on the end of the speedo cable. Mine should be 6 on the box and 20 on the cable. Alas it only has 17 teeth on the cable which is for the 1600 model. I haven't had the torque converter out to check whether that was changed with the box. Looking at the manual it does show that the 1600 converter has ratio of 2,02:1 whereas the 2000 shows 2,35:1. Would this affect the speedo reading? Regards and thanks again, Dave

Is there anyone out there who could sell me a speedo cable for my 11/1981 2.0 GL Auto Estate. At some time in the past, before I bought it, the autobox had been changed for one from a 1600 and as a result the speedo under reads badly. At the end of the cable is the driven gear wheel and the one that I need is one with 20 teeth. According to my Official Ford manual this cable also fits the 2.0 saloon as it has the same rear axle ratio as mine. Many thanks for looking at my request.
