    mk3 2 door

Hello all.. its been a long time.. my cortina had to be sold 2 years ago and ive missed her dearly.. i`m now in the market for something new.. and a little special... i know this is a cortina forum so i aplogise in advance for mentioning a capri.. but as they are bedfellows i thought this is as good a place as any.. basically im after a car that needs a little tlc, or is good but not a show car/rarity.. something i can put my stamp on and have some fun with.. if you know what i mean.. but is MOT-able and doesnt require welding.. basically can be driven from the outset.. can be scruffy, need a respray or an interior spruce up, whatever... so i`m looking for a mk3 2-door tina, or mk1 capri (or possibly some yank muscle).. be nice to get hold of something in a v8 or v6... or at least a 2l pinto, but i`ll consider anything if the other stuff is right.. prefereably manual shift too.. if anyone hears anything can you give me a shout on here or at my hotmail: toasted100 at hotmail dot com. cheers all... Mark
  3. Hey all, its been a while since ive posted, having sold my tina to move to london.. sadly i have nowhere to keep a car at the moment.. but as its the sunny season (or at least supposed to be) im looking for info on classic shows and the like in and around london.. anyone got any info? cheers, Mark
  4. must be picked up by friday or it goes to the bangers, or if he no longer wants it.. it goes to scrap. I`m moving on friday and cant take this car.. ythe banger guy round the corner offered me £200 a while a go for it but i was reluctant to sell it to him, now ive been unable to sell it and it must go, but i need the cash, so .. if anyone can pick up by friday (saturday MAY be a possibility) and make me an offer in the region of £200 its yours. the car is too good to scrap or race, its certainly restorable and runs ok, its been polybushed all round, has good sports exhaust, needs welding in a few places incl rear tubs, under heater box, a strip on the drivers side floor ans is letting in water through front screen rubber and sills. icomes with a bunch of spares incl inner sill panels, full Sill, spare carb, car is all there except for the carpet. it has no MOT. i cant post pics as i dont have my camera and comp, theyve already gone to my new home. but i may be able to get hold of some from another person who i sent some to. if youre interested ring me on 07855888913 as soon as you can, tomorrow i will phone the banger guy. cheers, Mark
  5. 1976 mk3 2000e for sale, needs bodywork sorting and some welding in the usual trouble spots. bought for 600quid 9 months ago. i did > poly bushed all round K+N air filter new front indicator units new front calipers, discs, and pads nice Sports back box, twin tailpipe, fitted by Ascar cobra supaslot alloys Red astrali steering wheel, red dash and wood cappings Bullet mirrors engine is good, puff of smoke on startup but after that its fine, just did 450 mile round trip, seats are very good, have had covers on. MOT and tax til august mot is deceptive though, will need work to pass. no carpet, but then you can see what youre getting, fuel gauge is indecisive! spares including, spare carb, full drivers side sill, inner sills, inner rear arch, originall steel wheels and trims, original airbox, spare rocker cover, rocker gasket, various odds and ends... its really not that bad and i`ll be sad to see it go  but i need to pay the rent for the next 3 months or i cant finish uni.. i`d like to get 600 for it, what i paid for it initially. PM me if youre interested. i`ll put photos up in a bit, a couple of the guys on here have seen the car so might be able to comment.
  6. Bournemouth, Dorset.. i`m pretty near some of you reading people.. :D i thought i was miles from anyone
  7. thought it would be interesting to see what the mpg`s are for city and motorway of our various tinas and various engines.. and interesting comparison chart if you will.. as i`m likely to be in the market for a replacement engine soonish... so what would the expected MPG of a 1.3, 1.6, 2.0 pinto, 2.8v6 cologne, essexes, cossies, windsors, rover v8`s etc.. whatever you have rammed in there..
  8. would i be able to get it to bournemouth.. is the question.. *hmm* tempted..
  9. not massively bothered about economy as i dont drive it that much.. i`m allowed up to a 2.8 on my insurance without a price hike.. just wondered what extra bits and bobs would need to go on to stop snapping propshafts mangling diffs and twisting axles or if it`d be happy with the standard 2.0stuff ..
  10. great.. looks like my engine (2l pinto) is burning oil... my car really hates me.. most likely be on the lookout for anoter engine soon then.. my no4 spark plug comes out oily so i`m guessing thats where the damage is.. one thing after another. what would be inviolved if i decided to put in a 2.8v6 or 2.3v6 would i need new axles and brakes or should i just look at anoter pinto to keep cost down? this will be engine 3.. unless it can be fixed for not too much.. is it likely that the damage is in the cylinder head, and so a new head solve the problem ?
  11. ah.. neato.. didnt think of that!!
  12. yup.. this stuff doesnt scare me any mor.. i`m a hardened cortina owner now!! i think thats the source on many a leekage.. there was leaves and broken glass in there too.. i couldnt figure why i kept finding little bits off safety glass in my footwell :o and no.. the heaterbox came out in *counts* about 8 pieces.. but luckily i already bought the replacement off you a while back!! i wonder if i can temporarily attach the heater matrix somewhere so i dont have to put the nice box in before ive sorted the bay.. would it be bad and wrong to just link the pipes together intil i get round to welding and painting that area.. ??
  13. heaterbox came out today.. more rusy behind.. i`m assuming this is pretty typical for a mk3. doesnt look too difficult to fix i guess.. now if only i could weld.. still.. soon.. soon.. enjoy the rusty.
