  2. Bought 2000e auto in May 1978 after a body shop ruined my mk1 after fitting new fliches and front wings (leaked like a sive after So had to go .(wish I could have afforded to swop the number plate to the mark 3 it was 30 JOV )
  3. Bought my 2000e in May 1978 after a body shop ruined my mk1. Paid £ 1000 for her and even though it was only just over 2 years old was crawling with rust. Sold my mk1 for £150 and borrowed £850 over 2 years and was worried sick how I was going to pay back £42 per month. Body shop that ruined my mk1 prepped her for a respray (foc) and I had her repainted at Prestiges in Birmingham for £43 including a pre clean in gip fast 90. After many years, resprays, welding, vinyl roof, bushes ,engine rebuild we are still together .
  4. Very true Cortina -city, I had the same thing happen years ago on my 2e. Also watch out where the jubilee clip is positioned on the inlet pipe as the air box can "lean" on the clip and push it out/or off (very easily done)
  5. About three years ago I purchased the complete kit from Accuspark ie Coil/leads/distributor with electronics already fitted and was much impressed at first. After about a years use I noticed that the car was getting harder and harder to start from cold and misfiring once started but after that ran fine. I was a mechanic before I retired and have access to a crypton machine (and I know how to use it) at my old place of work and discovered that when cranking the p[lug KV was so low that it is a wonder that the car started at all, this usualy indicates (assuming wiring and voltages ok) coil or switching unit . I re-fitted the original dizzy and coil and hey presto no more cold start worries and good KV readings. Just last week out of curiosity I did a bench test with the Accuspark dizzy etc and it is now totally dead. I have used the Lumenition system on my Cortina thirty odd years ago and found it to be a great bit off kit, and the only problem I had was when I stupidly miss-connected the coil wires and blew the module. In conclusion I will stick with points etc or if I go electronic again it will be Lumenition but even then with spare dizzy with points in boot Many thanks for listening Kevin
  6. Early last year replaced both engine mountings on my 2000e auto from a e bay supplier as the nearside one had parted from its bonding. Upon road testing the vibration was at around 2000 rpm was terrible and as a temporary measure I glued the old mounting together and the vibration vanished. To cut a long story short I ended up over a period of time fitting 4or 5 new mountings all of which I noticed were very hard compared with the originals,, as luck would have it I managed to obtain a pair of Ford originals in new condition and the rubber was considerably softer and more compliant (even by pressing with a fingernail ) than what I assume are Jack of all trade mountings /Land Rover/Transit and many others. Problem solved Many thanks Kevin
