  1. got the car back now, seems to have lost the clunk but its a filthy night here so i didnt go very far.
  2. many many years ago, 15 or more. Someone got me the bushes no doubt and the tool... too old to do it now, made a mistake not allowing for a lift when my new garage was built (twenty years ago....) There was no doubt at al which bushes it was on the Taunus, completely shot and waggling about. Yes the tool was as you describe...must have lent it or given it to someone.
  3. i fitted them myself to my Taunus, a long time ago, didnt seem too diffcult but i couldnt do it now... too feeble. I had two fitting tools but ive no idea where they are now.
  4. just to round it off...the new pipe from Motomobil fitted striaght on and is a much better job than the one that was on it, presumably a 1.6 pipe.... heavier gauge metal too.
  5. ive ordered rthe ones suggseted from Scotts, the dimensions dont quite tally but only the odd .mm or two so i gues they'll be OK. Well over €50 ... if i could have identified what i wanted and got them from the motor factors it would be probably half that. My new garage is very old school and the boss told me he has done hundreds of these, quite nostalgic for him having a Cortina on the ramp. Anyway, he checked the shocks and they're OK afaik and the other bushes look ok to him. Only once before have i replaced bushes on all the cars Ive had, and that one the axle was all over the place....this one is just a knock so im still a bit concerned its something else....
  6. That's Motomobils diagram and No 5 shown is 15059280-5 as shown in my previous post, which you're saying is the body end, which is no4 .(semi trailing arm front) . They both look the same size to me...39.2 ....so you can see how im struggling to get a defintive answer. length does vary but diameter the same.
  7. ive had the car seven years and not had to change the bushes so I'd take a chance in that, however i'm still getting nowhere in identifing the ones I needs for the ears on top of the Axle. If i could identify the solid ones, from an EU source, I'd go for them, (but not from the UK as it almost doubles the cost).
  8. im getting such alot of conflicting info. These seem to be the ones from Motomobil but they're bigger than the size you say https://www.motomobil.com/en/products/rear-axle-semi-trailing-arm-bushing-rear-15059280-5
  9. just double checking...it's the bush on top of the diff that appear suspect... usual suspects I guess.... this would be the semi trailing arm bush rear, right?
  10. i had a quick look, i cant see anything obviously amiss, but then maybe i wouldnt with the weight on them? Something is clonking...i'll just leave the garage find it.
  11. yes, i see but im hardly likely to wear them out in the next decade or two.
  12. will do... unusual for me i have both cars off the road awaiting parts now.
  13. thanks for all the info guys, much appreciuated. The car is going to the garage next friday to see whats needed. Im leaning towards it being the shock bushes, probably would have to get new units altogether, buit they seem readily available and my garage should be able to get them, maybe 50 squid the pair. The part no which seems to crop up most is 43017 or 443017 i have the bushes indentified now, would be about €125 plus p+p for the eight, c either way not too dear. Labour is another matter....( im getting too old for rolling round the floor under the car, makes me feel nauseus after a while.
  14. new ones seem to turn up regulalrly for sale... you might prefer the originals though
  15. ok i'll let the garage decide whats needed and proceed from there. I assume from what Craig said that new shocks would be needed if the rubbers are worn. It could be that I'm hearing because the car is driving nice and tight .... my Tuanus was all over the place when it needed bushes. AT least the mechanic could hear what i was saying about and didnt seem to think the wheel bearings were an issue, tthe second thing i wanted them to check....they could scream their heads off and i wouldnt hear it. (it's a low mileage car, but the age is there....
