  2. hi Can someone tell me the torque for the top nut on the strut think its 5/8" un its the roller bearing top mount nut
  3. currently on eBay £100 think expensive but there you go Lotus or just a 1200 deluxe but always Lotus priced Mk1 Lotus Cortina Quarter Light Glass Panels x 2
  4. ok ordered one ! thanks once again for helping me out ( great that you share your experience for the greater good) currently my sender is away for refurb so will try and get everything back together on its return thanks again # Alan
  5. so is that the one with the two compression lip seals on the inside ( almost like a V seal)
  6. Folks I have a mk1 South African car which has an 8 gallon ( verified) tank but the sender is not the flat face and separate lock ring. My fuel sender attaches like the Mk2 one piece unit, the seal I removed was a simple neoprene/ rubber flat ring which destroyed itself. Searching, came across Mk2 owners club lists two sender unit types with pictures ( suggesting my one looks like the late Mk2 but no seals shown) could some body please show me the two types of seals? Mk2 club numbers are 2400E-9276B Aug 1969 onward and 113E 9276S ( which I think is the flat faced sender ring with the separate lock ring PM me if that's appropriate or alanlarnach@hotmail.com Oh the joys a SA car
  7. Folks I am about to get my Mk1 Airflow seats recovered The old metal "S" springs are very soft and saw rubber diaphragms on eBay apparently they fit both Mk1 and 2 Has anybody verified this, or have installed them and were they an improvement ? No I am not putting in alternative seats. The seats will be going to an upholsterer friend of mine and I will get the Aldridge covers for him to fit.
  8. yes I had a few problems with my crossflow 1600 in mk1 Cortina so about a month ago) dead simple to fit plug and go their worth a phone and very helpful ( I was getting messed up between Ballast and non Ballast coils, they sorted me out anyway works for me
  9. just a follow up yes "T" in place servo and crank case vent to single connection on manifold brakes all good and no oil leak or mist on the rocker cover, I say " sorted" thanks for the assistance
  10. Thank you for getting back to me I've just ordered a T piece so will splice that in ! what do you think about a vented pipe connection for the rocker cover I do get a mist over the cover, the O ring on the filler cap is good and no apparent drips from the current filler, just not sure if that would be just a sensible thing to do will try a latex glove over the filler neck to see if there is a blow first though
  11. have a look at RETROFORD, think I seen they were doing takes for Mk1 and 2
  12. Cortina Mk1 with early 1600 Kent crossflow , twin choke and single vacuum connection on the inlet manifold hi all Got my brakes all sorted with new 0.70" master and servo now fitted, The engine has the crank case breather can on the block which was plumbed to the vacuum take off point on the inlet under the carb, I used this spur for the servo and just fitted a little atmospheric filter on the crank case vent line in the interim. however I believe the crank case (PCV ?) need vacuum to operate and I may create ( more) oil leaks this may be a stupid question for the experts, but this is the advice I need Q:- can I simply "T" piece into the new servo line with the crank case line with 3/8" T piece and clamp there is a sweat around the oil filler cap ( escort type) so was thinking of getting the filler cap (Burton) with has the vent spur and plumbing it to the pancake air filter as well so crank case breathing venting info required innocently asking Alan
  13. Ha Ha You are educating the Northern Hemisphere Susan I'll give you a shout on my next inquire thanks again for your contribution to this forum
  14. correction just seen the same inlet manifold on Ebay flange side water jacket clear as day I'm a numty
  15. Firstly thank you Susan for taking the time to respond, I do appreciate it ! very helpful info for me! Flaps may have been open at time of testing !!!!! Its a South African car and as such may be akin to the Australian cars anyway ( including the BW axle ) The previous owner said there was no heater fitted when he imported it, the heater unit in the boot as a spare part, so he installed it ( correctly ? was my issue) I was very suspicious, which as you can see in the picture ( 4" in front of the righthand yellow arrow) there is a joint in the line from the water pump where possibly an inline shut off valve could have been. The heater unit has only one lever ( OFF/ INTERIOR /SCREEN) plus the two flap controls +fan, so suspect this unit is the "light weight" Scots don't need them anyway @@@ My only query now is the circulation route as can't see an outlet on the inlet manifold and never seen a water jacket in a head before **** I did take the inlet manifold hose off today and a constant trickle of coolant ( hot) came from the manifold and no other hoses appear to be attach, had to top up the radiator for the losses bloody weird but will pull the motor in the winter to tidy it up so will have that manifold naked to get a good look from the underside clearly I'll leave as is and move on to the other stuff I have to fix thanks again Susan ( very helpful)
