MK5 OHC power steering conversion
Stuwindsurf replied to nigel's topic in Suspension, Steering, & Brakes
Sorry, I missed your reply somehow ๐คจ Anyway, yes it is a new installation. I have the rack mounted to the cross member. It was pretty straightforward, just had to grind down the top ribs slightly and cut a small piece out of the engine mount for hose clearance. I am fitting it to my mk3. I have a pump already installed, it's from a Sierra/Granada and I've mounted it to the RV8 which is going in. So did pirtek supply you with the fittings aswell as the hoses? If so any part numbers or descriptions? Thanks for your help so far Stu -
MK5 OHC power steering conversion

Hi Nigel, I know this is an old thread but I'm doing the exact same thing as you. I have a Mk4 PS rack and need to get some pipes made up between the rack and pump. Do you have any info/pics you could show me of the pipes you had made by Pirtek please? Many thanks Stu -
So I'm looking around for wheel ideas and ideally want to fit 225 width tyres, if possible front and back. Just wondered what kind of offsets have worked for people? I think the standard is ET38 but I like the deeper dish looking wheels. As my car is just a shell at the moment, I have the opportunity to modify the inner tubs and if necessary can remove some of the arch lip to make them fit, although I don't want to flare the arches. Bit of a long shot, but I guess I'm asking if anyone knows what the minimum offset is for a 7.5 or 8" wide rim with a 225 tyre to fit within the arches...

Power steering for Mk 3
Stuwindsurf replied to Stuwindsurf's topic in Suspension, Steering, & Brakes
Thanks, do you know if the Sierra racks are the correct width for the Cortina? although I guess I could machine down the tie rod ends if they're too long -
This has probably been discussed many times before so apologies in advance. I want to fit power steering to my Mk3 cortina. I don't necessarily need something that will bolt in with minimal changes (although that would be nice). I did read somewhere that a Cortina mk4/5 power steering rack would work but I haven't been able to find one of those so far. So looking for available rack options the right length, happy to make mounts, hydraulic pipes etc. I've come across a sierra 4wd psr, does anyone know if that would have potential? I'm not sure what the difference is between the sierra 2wd and 4wd rack? I hoping to hook whatever rack I end up with to the standard Range rover pump on the 3.5 V8 that's going in. Would that be a problem or does both the pump and rack have to match, ie from the same car? Thanks in advance for any help/info. Stu

So did you replace the link arms with SD1 Watts link arms? And if so what are the benefits? -

This is a pic of the kit I have on a Capri axle, although I had to make the file so small to be able to upload it so the picture isn't very clear now -

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. If you could take some pictures that would great ๐ To utilise the kit I already have, which is Sierra Cosworth 270mm solid brake discs and calipers, I'm hoping I could make some mounts for the calipers from steel that simply bolt on to the end of the axle flange so there's no welding to the axle required. Can you see any issues with this? It's how the kit is designed for the Capri/Escort axles Looking at my set up, I think if I was to weld mounts on to the axle it would position these calipers too far in and I'd end up spacing them out to reach the discs, unless I'm missing something ๐ค Many thanks Stu
