  4. Reluctantly I'm selling my Dad's Mk4 1600L Estate, 56.,650 miles. It needs a home where it can be used and enjoyed. First reg December 1978, my father bought it in March 1981 with about 15,000 miles. He owned it until he died in 1995, and I inherited it shortly afterwards. It was on the road until about 2005 as my son and I intended to restore it. The usual factors intervened and the project was shelved until about 2013-4. I decided to have it professionally restored and BSC members recommended Steve Taylor. He did the work, stripping back to bare shell, repairing all rust etc. and refurbishing mechanicals as required. I had the seats re-trimmed and fitted new carpet in floor and load compartment. The car looks beautiful and drives nicely. I have submitted an ad to ClassicCarsforSale website, and you can see it there or contact me for fuller details. Loads of history from original used car sales invoice, MOT's, bills, original user handbook. Hundreds of photos of restoration project available on a CD for the lucky buyer. Now tax exempt
  5. In 2014 or 2015 I asked BSC members if they could recommend someone to restore my Dad’s 1978 Cortina estate. To cut a long story short, Steve Taylor restored the car for me, stripping it back to the bare shell, repairing, painting and re-assembling it. The results were excellent. But things change and I have reluctantly decided the car should go to a home where it can be used and cherished. At present, it sits in my garage and I struggle to find the time to do more than take it out now and then. Full details are posted on Classic Cars for Sale website at http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/detail/ford-cortina-264134 My father bought the car in March 1981 and I inherited it, (in running order, but in need of some tidying) when he died in 1995. Since then, the car was stored until 2015 when I bit the bullet and asked Steve Taylor to restore it for me. Check out the ad and if you are interested, contact me and we can see if a deal can be agreed.
  6. On having a clear out, I have found I have a pair of Mk5 front indicator units complete, one each of nearside and offside lamps. They came off an X-reg 2.0 GL Estate I broke about 15 years ago, and are used but have no cracks or splits. The nearside lamp has a couple of small chips out of the top edge, about 3mm x 2mm and 5mm x 2mm. The adjuster rods are a bit rusty, but the threads are clean and the platic adjusters still run on them. A bit of WD40 would have them back in good order. The rubbers and cable are still in good condition, soft and flexible. £25 for the pair, or £15 each if you only want one. I've also found a front offisde bumper end cap. It has a few scuffs from parking dings, but the rear clips are in good condition. This won't do for you if you have a concours car, but its fine for a daily driver. £10. Location is Grays, Essex if you can collect, or I can post if you cover the postage. Call or text 07711 774649 for photos if interested.

    Rear seat belts

Hi, I have set of Mk4 rear seat belts I bought some years ago from Craig at Sheffield Cortina Centre. In the end I bought new for my Mk4 restoration so these are available for sale. Text or call 07711 774649 and I can send photo. Can't work out how to post pictures on this site; looks like I have to have them in the cloud - and I don't use cloud. Mk4Estate (Tony)
  8. Update 3rd September: Steve collected my car this evening and will start work on it next week. Will post a few before and after pictures as project progresses. Thanks to all who offered suggestions. Tony
  9. Thanks for the suggestion. Have pm'd him and will let you know how it goes. Tony
  10. Based in Grays, Essex, I need a reliable restorer for my 1978 Mk4 1.6L estate. Stored since 1995, rarely used since then, but engine runs. Needs some body rust fixed, plus obvious mechanicals – new brakes throughout; clutch and radiator. Will probably follow through afterwards to re-trim, but need the basics first. Have collected many new parts on the way to make it easier. (NB this was my father's car and it is a family heirloom, so I want to get it restored and use it; it won't be for sale if my son has his way - sorry to disappoint any other Mk4 projects). Looking for someone who won’t cost an arm and a leg; preferably local enough to make it easy to follow progress. Any recommendations welcome. Thanks in advance, Mk4Estate

    mk5 panels

Got a bonnet in Grays, Essex. email tonycater@yahoo.co.uk if you want to discuss a deal.
  14. I have a 2 litre pinto engine and 4 speed gearbox from a Mk5 estate I broke last year. (Shell went to breaker) Engine was running fine when I took it out of the vehicle Easter 2003. We drove it from Southend to Thurrock (20 miles) with no trouble to get it home to break. Get in touch if you fancy doing a deal for it. I've also got the prop shaft., and full brown interior. Other bits may be available, get in touch and we might do a deal. I need some for my Mk4 restoration, but we can negotiate on anything you might want. You would need to collect it, but I can do a good deal. Location near J30/31 M25 - Thurrock. Best wishes, Mk4Estate

    Exhaust bits

Why not try the normal exhaust suppliers? I bought a complete exhaust for my 1.6 Mk4 Estate from KwikFit last year, and it only cost £100 or so. It only took them a day or two to get the parts into stock. Good luck Mk4Estate
