  1. Sorry, one other question on this please - the front nuts on tie bars themselves look to be nyloc nuts, so I'm thinking I'd better replace them. But I can't quite tell from measurements whether the bar is 18 or 19mm. Anyone know for sure? Either way it looks to have a fine thread (pitch 1.5 mm). Anyone know for sure? By the way, I think the lower arm bolts for the tie bars are M12 rather than M14, which doesn't fit the hole. Thanks
  2. Thanks for checking Craig, I'll head down to my local nut and bolt monger.
  3. Thanks Craig. I guess they'll be high tensile because there's quite a lot of vibration going on?
  4. Hello all, Time to replace my tie bar bushes. But the two bolts that go into the suspension lower arm look like they've been at the bottom of a swamp, and I'm not confident of getting them off in one piece. I'll use heat etc. before resorting to cutting them - but are replacements available? I can't find anything online, although nearby things like the anti roll bar connecting links can be had. Thanks!
  5. Wow that was fast! Thanks Craig (and I hope you're well!) Neil
  6. Hello all, I'm overhauling my brakes and am a bit confused by what the Mk4/5 manual says, which is: "the differential valve assembly was fitted to early Cortina models and has now been superseded by a brake pressure control valve. The removal and fitting... is similar.. but the brake pressure control valve is a sealed unit." There's a nice drawing of the valve, with 5 brake lines going in / out. But I can't find it anywhere on my car (a 1980 2 litre). All I have from the 3-pipe master cylinder is front left, front right and rear. Was the valve only fitted to certain models, as hinted at by other threads on here? Or phased out quite quickly?? Thanks for any advice. Neil

  11. Yep, Ford were always very good at that sort of thing - certainly better than BMC anyway. Thanks Craig
  12. Hi all, I finally got round to replacing the fuel flexi hoses on my 2l Mk5. I’d bought ethanol-proof hose of two sizes (8mm and 6mm, sender and return), but now that I’ve got the old ones off I see that the metal pipes on the sender unit itself are both 8mm. That isn’t what I had expected (or what I'd read here), and it’s different to a replacement sender unit I bought a while back. Did they change the spec of sender units at some point? Mine is a 1980 Mk5. Cheers
  13. Yes, definitely dgo - thanks. That's one of the reasons for replacing them, the other being that the fuel sender's leaking (again) and the hoses at that end looked a bit threadbare when I went underneath. Tigdlo - thanks, I hadn't clocked those short pieces, I'll do those too.
