my memory has got so bad I can’t even remember the name of the carb. It’s the original type that always gave trouble. Mines an early mk5 1.6 pinto,Oo I remember that lol, the poor old girl is just sitting outside being neglected now :(

How hard is it to get the front inner wing repair sections for mk5’s? Now I’m keeping mine I migh5try to correct some of the repairs and was never happy with the wing mountin* panel.

I’m trying to buy panels for the bug as the rust n the van is lower 4inches so not worth buying whole panels

I know what ya mean but like a lot of people to man6 projects and not enough cash. I bought an old iveco camper to do up but used the savings to buy a Ford cargo. then used the savings for that and bought a beetle to do up so t8me to stop buying:)

Well after having the car up for sale over here for over a month and only about 6 enquiries ( not serious ) it looks like I’m keeping the old girl. She’s surplus to requirements and can’t really afford to insure her but she’s here to stay for now.

Starting a new thread on this. how do you fit a rocker gasket as I’ve never fitted one on any car before. I just got one from the motor factor and it isn’t the shape I thought. if it’s right going by the pic already sent how does it fit

Can I ask you guys what is the gasket meant to look like. One of my local factors has ordered me one but it is one piece it has one corner cut out ,is that right,I never changed one before.

would it be anything serious causing it or just a failed gasket do you think.

as with my other post the ol’girl started after doing a test that John Mack suggested so not needed now but thanks Craig for the offer.

Thanks John. I had a quick look on YouTube and it made sense. NOT THE SAGA CONTINUES i did what John suggested and got a spark so good coil. Put all the leads on and got my son o turn the key out of curiousity and with no choke she fired up instantly. NOW after 20/30 seconds she started smoking on the exhaust manifold and noticed wet coming out the engine so assumed head gasket. Couldn’t see if she over heated as didn’t want to wreck things so took a quick vid. NOW as I watched the vid to load I thought “hang on that’s the rocker it’s coming from” so hopefully the vid will load and you guru’s an confirm it for me. Anyone got a cheap second hand working coil for sale for a 1979 1.6 mk5. as cheap as possible as only need to get it started to see if it overheats not looking for one to last years.

Just pulled the lead of the diz cap and there’s no spark so I guess the coils knackered

the one thing I don’t have is a voltmeter

just checked in the dark and there’s no spark at all at the points so that’s the condensor isn’t it?

As some know my car over heated and had fun and games with the thermostat. I still haven’t bothered my . trying to start it but if as a worse case scenario the head gasket has gone what is it likely to cost as if I sell I need to take that into account

you’re getting technical now Craig :) I don’t think I’ve ever changed the coil on the old girl so wouldn’t know what was on there.

I forever seem to be replacing the condenser lol. Put a new one on just before it overheated about 3 months or so ago. I’d easily sell her tomorrow
