  1. sorry dont want to hijack your thread but ive got a GT wing badge that is palegold in colour on a pinkish background. Is this because its faded or does it belong to something else? :headscratch:
  2. E-type as in 1600E(type) i presume :shocking:
  3. dont do what i did many many years ago when i sprayed the discs with wd40 to stop the brakes binding!!!result no front brakes at all.
  4. ask the bloke who is painting it how much he would need he should know.. Some Yellows are very transparent,Zinc yellow springs to mind but this is a more modern 90s colour.
  5. ive got a front valance for a mk3. its going on e-bay next week for £50 plus p&p. its not genuine Ford though. if you are interested I can send photos to an e-mail address.
  6. have you bought an aerosol of the colour or just a touchup as in my experience touchups never seem to match(unless solid colours)if you have the aerosol then first off i would get a piece of plastic/card rub it down and prime it then spray the silver on it then lacquer it and then you can check it against the car for a colour match.what part of the car are you painting? metallic paint very rarely matches unless you are blending it into adjacent panels, then there is the problem of (aerosol) lacquer and fadeout spray etc.etc. you can take the car back to halfords and use their colour chips to check by the way. ive tried to paint cars with aerosols and that is why i ended up investing in sprayguns and equipment over the years.
  7. try diluting thinners with water using a nail brush to get in all the nooks and crannies. try it on a small area first off and have a cloth soaked in water to wash off asap. if it leaves marks on the vinyl and wont clean up with a vinyl cleaner then you will have to repaint. i clean the black vinyl roof of my 1971 gxl with shoe polish and the nailbrush method.
  8. anyone?...could someone look to see if they have an M code on their original Ford screen, that would be a helpful start...
  9. Ive just returned from the depths of my shed and I have found that I own 6 windscreens. I presume they are all off Cortinas as I am not likely to collect other sorts, however I cant remember what cars they were off.2 are marked ford with codes M54 and M44, there is a M85 and a M97, a heated rearscreen marked ford, and finally a front that a friend of mine couldnt get to fit in his mk5 saloon so we presume its off a mk5 estate. Can any kind person tell me if the codes mentioned actually mean anything or give me a rough sizing guide to Cortina screens. If I get no info from anyone on the codes then I will post up the sizes but it will only be rough, top to bottom and widthways about halfway up the screen. Thanks in advance
  10. I presume that you have got all the guns, discs etc etc and compressor. If the paint is sound then just scotch it with degreaser and a grey scotchpad until the wing is matt, this will help to key the paint. I would use a white primer either 2k or aerosol to help the topcoat to cover better. What type paint are you using for the topcoat?
  11. Although it is difficult to tell from a photo it looks like GRAPHITE GREY over STRATOS SILVER.Correct me if I am wrong but was this colour scheme used on the mk2 GRANADA as well?
  12. MERCURY GREY is a later Ford colour dating from about 1987 on.
  13. DOVE GREY is a Ford colour from these years is the digit on the plate a C ? What year is the car?
  14. Colour code D for 1976-1982 (mk4/5 Cortinas) is CARNIVAL RED.No code O for these years.

  17. you will have to blend it as suggested by the last poster...all metallic colours must be painted into the adjacent panels
  18. i did a bonnet on an escort in matt blackand i found the best way was to repair then put a coat of 2k primer over it ...did you use that? flatted back with 320 on the repairs and then 500 on the da..the black went on and had nowhere to sink into...the next problem was getting all the airborne crap out of it...
  19. no its yellow stuff! use it straight from the tin(after stirring of course)
  20. hello...rio brown is J or XSC1676A....champagne gold metallic is O or XSC1550B-1550C...hope this helps
  21. i use a plastic spreader (bodyfiller type). they are stuck on with 2sided emblem tape , put them back on with the same or use super glue if you dont intend to take them off again!!!
  22. the basecoat version needs a clear coat lacquer on it...if someone has painted the wing on the car then they will have painted into the door to blend the colour so even if the paint is a shade off then you wouldnt notice it....possibly your last option would be to go to a bodyshop and ask them to either scan it or if they have the profi system (sprayouts of every conceivable shade of gold) to match it from that...
  23. sorry mate but there was nothing on the computer at all ref unique gold...was it halfords that mixed it for you? if not try them
  24. doesnt really help you i know but there was a colour called unique gold used between 1980-1987 and the code was/is 8 cant find a xsc reference for it though..going to look on the computer at work tomorrow
  25. 1982-1987 atlantic blue is L or PH depending on which model..auxilliary code is XSC1581A
