  1. 1978 mk4 1.6gl, 46000 miles from new, loads of paperwork to back up the mileage as I have almost every mot certificate from new. bad points, body work is getting tired. this is the reason for selling as I unfortunately do not have somewhere to store the car and I don't want to leave it to rust away so would rather sell it to someone who will give it the care and attention she needs. she did have a full respray almost 7 years ago when I did most of the work on her. good points, where do I start! I have spent a fair bit on the car. I have replaced the head with a stage1 gas flowed unleaded head from burton power. its got an rs2000 inlet with a 32/36 webber carb and a K&N filter. Ashley 2" exhaust system from the manifold. Lumenition electronic ignition and a kenlowe fan. lowered 1" all round with spax adjustable dampers, braided brake hoses, grooved front discs and green stuff pads. got all the receipts from burton power to prove all these parts. I do have the original springs, dampers and other various parts that I replaced. the ghia alloys where refurbished at the same time as the car was resprayed, the toyo tyres are all in good condition (including the spare). the interior was in a very bad condition when I got the car so I have replaced the whole interior with that from a mk5, the only mark on the interior is a stain on the passenger seat. tax runs out next month and the mot runs out 6 months later. Im looking for sensible offers near to £2000. viewings are more than welcome, im on the isle of wight and can meet anyone off the ferry in the car for viewings and test drives. if you want the car delivered I can also do this, it will be around £50 for the ferry plus 25p per mile to your address. i have plenty of pictures if you wish to see any. contact me at cortinaiw@hotmail.co.uk or on 07772926066 thanks for looking, Steve
  2. still got the original 1.6 in my mk4, it has got an unleaded head now though. what engine oil would you recommend? everywhere i look suggests diferent types. thanks!
  3. hi fellow cortina peeps! hope i find you all well? what has been going on in the few months since the yat? due to a slave driver of a boss i've been stupidly busy at work and haven't been on here to see whats been occuring. can anyone give me a quick run down?
  4. same as everyone has said! poly bush first, good set of springs (rallye design, burtons, etc) then a set of gaz adjustables so you can get the ride just right to siut you! the whole lot should cost you around £200 to £300 for new.
  5. they may need a bit of a clean, but i have front and rear seats in blue, ill need to check on condition though. steve
  6. ive got a set if anyone wants them? £30. bortaf, i think its fair that you get first refusal. let me know, cheers.

    timing cover

are you going to a 2ltr kev? ive finaly got my old alternator off to be refurbished so you can have your spare back soon!
  8. not a problem!

  9. hopefuly it won't go wrong! can't go upsetting fellow cortina owners, might even be me you see next week!
  10. wish i had £1500, id have that!
  11. oh well, at least its another mk4 on the road!
  12. well, im feeling a bit cheated. i saw an advert, cortina parts wanted, some guy wants parts to restore a mk4. so helpfuly i got in touch and he seemed genuinly interested in restoring this mk4, told me about how it used to have the v8 in it. and as most people on here have said, i loved that mk4! so i let him have the old exhaust off my mk4 very cheap. now it seems he was only after cheap bits to make a profit. im a touch annoyed about that.
  13. I remember there was quite a thread on this car when it was sold on ebay a couple of years back - the guy who was selling it got an absolute flaming!! (don't remember why but he certainly upset a few people) is this the car that matey was and wasn't going to sell, no one could get hold of and it all seemed a bit odd when he was selling it? i was one of the doubters, but i was proved wrong when the car was sold and it really is as good as it seems. just wish i had the money!
  14. i think they might be mk 3/4 escort. seem to remember my brother getting a pair for his mk3 escort estate. anyone know where you can get them from now?
  15. im with you bortaf, its an hour of light entertainment that we all know is a bit set up and it makes me laugh. if you want to know about what car to buy, watch 5th gear. apart vikki butler-henderson and tiff needel i find the presenters unbelievably irritating trying to be 'cool' and 'hip', lounging around on the sofa's. also, has anyone noticed that they too copy some of the ideas that top gear have? like a few of the challenges? as for older cars then itv4 has a car programme with jason dawes and penny mallory (can't remember the name of the programme) they generally show the older cars and what you can get on a bit of a budget. if none of them float your boat then you have 'vroom vroom' on sky (in my opinion that is rubbish), all those programmes that mark bloke does 'a car is born', a chopper is born', 'a plane is born' and 'wreck rescue'. or, how about american hotrod, overhaulin'? so there is a car programme for just about every taste. so you don't have to watch top gear at all. rant over, didn't mean to go on so much!
  16. i think i need some of that medication too bortaf as i enjoy watching it too. i find that if you watch top gear as a car programme then you'll be disappointed. however, if you watch it as an hour of entertainment of 3 blokes doing stuff that if most of us are honest would like to do then its quite amusing. as for the marina's, for every one they trash, the ones that are left are becoming rarer, therefore making their car more valuable/desireable. an example of which being lada's, even though they are horrendous cars in my opinion, my mate wants one because they are quite rare now!
  17. behind the actual seat, and no, it doesn't sound like they're in the boot as they are facing forward into the car. mind you, i am running a 1000watt amp! :-)
  18. take the panel off behind the rear seats, cut a bit of mdf the same size with 2 holes cut for 6x9 speakers and mount it where the old board was, you will need to do a bit of fiddling but they do fit nad the rear seat springs don't hit the speakers, and as long as you have the covers on the 6x9 the cones shouldn't get damaged. you will need to drill 2 holes at the bottom for mounting bolts but the seat mounting bolts hold the top up :-) and ive got uprated speakers in my ghia door cards so when you look in the car looks totaly standard! just don't turn it up too loud if you have rear passangers! ha ha!
  19. ive got toyo's on my cortina, can't fault them! grip like mad and after 2 years (4000 miles) hardly look worn, and im not gentle with them! for the family audi ive got firestones, a bit more expensive, however they have done 30,000 in 3 years and just now need changing! im a believer in using good quality tyres, having had a close call with budget tyres throwing they're tread on a motorway once.
