I think you'll find out that throwing a good 2.0 in there is the easiest, most reliable and economic solution. And you don't really want to mess about with carbs and jets and advance curves... It will never be as smooth and reliable as factory without a lot of hassle and trial and error... will wear out your patience! Ask me how I know... :) Just keep the 1.6 in the garage, oil it and turn it over once in a while. That's just my thoughts on the matter... :D In the end.... you should do it the way you feel is right, of course.

yes... brakes never got attention, so master cylinder is leaking and calipers are stuck. Will get new brakes for safety, new timing belt, tensioner and water pump.

Thanks. My concern now is.... do I use it? add up the mileage? I'm tempted to do so, and probably will. It's not often you get the chance to break in a new Cortina!... :drool: But then it will be only just another Mk4. Admitedly it will allways be well taken care of.

Well, here is the reason I put my pick-up up for sale... Just bought this Mk4 Estate. It's a 1.6L with a genuine 6022 Kms on the odometer. That's under 4000 miles! Bought it off the original owner that was an emigrant in Germany. One time in 1977 having come to visit his home country and having no car to moove around in, he just bought this off the local Ford dealer. Kept unused in his garage for all this time. engine started and warmed frequently for 40 years, and driven sparingly. All original paint. Tyres are the original Goodyears it left the factory with. And in perfect looking condition too. Although I will use them for show only. It's grubby and needs a major service. Hello, everyone I’m new here... but after I saw the group on Classic Ford I had to look for the forum! It was only recently that I bought a classic Ford. Although not a Cortina, I think it qualifys for the forum. You be the judges and let me know. Check ou the pics here Taunus Coupe If the car makes you think of a mk3, it's because it is... almost! It’s the German built Ford Taunus Coupe. It’s all Cortina, as you can see, except for the rear coupe style. It came from new with the 2l cologne, but it’s a serious candidate for a cosworth... or a 2.8. haven’t decided yet. Either way it’ll look standard on the outside... In Portugal there isn’t a great interest on the mk3 and parts are scarce. Hope you like it. I do!
