  1. .torpedo tubes fitted, and valance finished. Ignore the awful paint job, it's just to protect while I am working on the car. I will worry about prettying it up later
  2. Oh man, that car looks just so RIGHT!!! Very cool. Do you run it in a particular event/class? Or is it for random track days? Thanks very much for the info, I will go with the standard servo then. Assuming it works, cis it would be nice to not have to replace something for a change. V interesting re the rear disc conversion. I have just invested in new drums, shoes, and slaves, so will stick with that but will bear it in mind for the future.
  3. I imagine to checked/would have noticed but I had some shoes delaminate because the slave cylinder turned itself in to a brake fluid dispenser
  4. Hola all So my mk4 started life as a 1.6 Pinto, but is getting a 2.8 cologne and 4-pot calipers. The servo it came with looks a bit diddy. Did the v6 cortinas come with a bigger servo? And will e.g. an XR4i or v6 Granny servo mate up to the pedal OK? Or is Cortina unique? Thanks all
  5. Ignore, just found these here on page 3 Unless anyone has any more? Thanks
  6. Hiya, apologies for resurrecting an old thread but as it's directly discussing... The front crossmember is currently off the car, so is a good time to see about adapting it to fit the sierra PAS rack. Are there pics of anyone's experiments/experiences with this? It fits (just!) but space is tight so I would love to benefit from the wisdom of others, rather than find out the hard way that I have stuffed up. I did have a search but no joy. Thanks p.s. my car is LHD so the photo isn't flipped
  7. Hiya, oh no, that's annoying! But not to worry about the measurements (but I very much appreciate the offer). I think I now know how to take this forward. Fortunately the other side is still sound so I can use that as a guide, coupled with your diagram.
  8. Hiya, thanks so much for that diagram. Markymark3 has put me on the trail of a replacement cylinder to hold the bush that will hopefully be the right size, and that schematic will be super helpful in making sure it goes on the right place.
  9. Thanks both for the replies. I am on the hunt for suitable parts and will post here if it's useful to mk4s.
  10. Hiya, as per the pics my 1979 mk4 front chassis rail has rusted around the leading bush mount. Does anyone sell this as a replacement part? I'd prefer to chop it all out rather than try to repair, as I expect the tube for the bush is weakened as well. Or does anyone have a breaker they could chop that bit off for me, assuming it's not equally rotten. Thanks
  11. Great, thanks. I was looking and suddenly couldn't work out if I had seen them before or was imagining it
  12. P.s. I got the cord from a tackle and boat supplies shop, but hardware stores sell it, and I even got some in poundland once
  13. I used (from memory) 5mm para cord to replace the rear screen in my mk4. I was using anew rubber, so nice and pliable, and I had steeped it in warm soapy water immediately beforehand too, for extra pliance.
  14. Having removed the inner and outer lower valance I can get a good look at these indents/cut-outs in the chassis rail. Are they to ventilate, so any moisture in the chassis rails gets blown out by air being forced through when driving? Thanks
  15. Thanks. Yeah, I have already polybushed the rear, and will be doing the same at the front when I work my way up there. I will be putting new springs on too, as I dare say the old ones are squishier now than they were when new.
  16. Brill, thanks for the reply. Reckon I will go for it then. Cheers
  17. Wasn;t sure if this was technical or more general chat. But... Has anyone fitted adjustable rear shocks to a road-going mk3/4/5? I need to replace what look very likely to be the ones mine left the factory with, and I am happy to pay the extra if it's worth it. I have never used adjustables, so am wary of wasting money on things that won't benefit me. Thanks
  18. I am pretty sure I saw something on FB about a newly manufactured louvre. It was (from memory) similarly priced to the one in your link so may well be the same people but I will try to find it.
  19. Hi, follow up question please. I found that the handbrake cable was seized so bought a new one, which also led me to discover this guide/support was hanging off...! Haynes (not known for their honesty and accuracy) say to just pull the cable out. So should there be a slight gap to allow this? Both of mine are completely closed up but that may be due to impact. Thanks
  20. Just noticed that the kit covers cortina, granada and several Renault models, so it may be they are for a master/traffic?
  21. Having just replaced the rear brakes using a new fittings kit, I am left with a pair of these. All the other bits in the kit took the place of an old bit I removed, but whoever did the brakes last time must have left them out. Thanks in advance.
  22. Hiya, I am trying to source some shoes, and there seems to be 2 types. I need/have all the fittings for the type in my photo. I do see these available, but none of the pictures include the hand brake lever. This doesn't seem like it's removable from my old shoes. Am I being dense? It appears to be riveted. The photos for the other type DO include the handbrake lever. Thanks
