Excellent, that's really helpful - now I know what it *should* look like
-
That sounds fun! Should still be galaxies in scrapyards! Zetecs are nice engines, but as yiu say it's £££ just to get them to sit the right way.
-
Great! I never understood why they were do overlooked for swaps with (from memory) about 30hp more a standard 2.0 pinto. And they used to be plentifully available.

I know this is an ancient thread, but posting a reply here in case it is of assistance... My daily drive is an imported 1986 US Ranger with a 2.9 Cologne engine. I have had it about 2 years and sat in umpteen traffic jams, and the temperature has never been an issue. I will measure up and see if it could be fitted to a cortina. Assuming yes, then although it would need importing, there will be a plentiful supply as Rangers have excellent aftermarket parts availability. I generally use Rockauto to order bits. Ps it is using the standard fan on the waterpump

Looks v good! I have bought a Mercedes chin spoiler to go on mine, but I am not ready to fit it yet. I will try to remember to post pics when I do.

Is that an I4 from a Sierra? If so, was it much of a bother to fit? Thanks
-
Brill, thanks. No worries if you don't, but if you have got a pic of what it should look like, then that would be ace

Hi, I scored front and rear mk3 seats for my mk4. They're not mint but waaaaaaaaaay better than the sun-rotted crap that came with my car. On the rear seat bench and back, the cloth is detached from the frame (at the bottom on the back part, and at the rear on the bench part). Could anyone share pics of how the fabric is supposed to attach, so I can repair? Many thanks.

Granada power rack?
disco_monkey79 replied to disco_monkey79's topic in Suspension, Steering, & Brakes
It's a Sierra rack from Ebay Germany . Can't remember the origin country (not Germany). The 2.8 and 3.0 Capris were the only ones to have factory PAS, though plenty of people have retrofitted PAS to 4-cyl models. I would not be surprised if the American 2.3 4-cyl Mercury Capri had PAS, but the bits would probably be tougher to track down than a Cortina one, and accepted wisdom seems to be Capri stuff won't fit. -
Granada power rack?

Please do keep us all posted! I ordered a lhd rack from Eastern Europe (not yet arrived - hopefully it will be worth the money) so will be giving that a go, but would be v interested to see a leccy job -
Granada power rack?

Cheers, will do. Not seen a lhd one yet, but there are already way more Sierra racks out there. I did look on rockauto for merkur xr, but they have failed me for the very first time. I was hoping the granny ones just had longer arms, but shortening the casing is a bit beyond me! -

Brill, thanks. I will hold out for a Sierra (or cortina) rack. Thanks again -
Granada power rack?
disco_monkey79 replied to disco_monkey79's topic in Suspension, Steering, & Brakes
Thanks for the info. Is narrowing a granada rack not on the cards? If this stuff was cheaper I'd happily buy it and try, but not when I am potentially wasting £200-plus quid! -
I am totally striking out in trying to find a lhd power rack for my mk4, so it looks like I may need to mod something to fit. I have seen various threads making reference to modding Sierra and granada racks, but can you point me to any threads that actually show the process? Also, I have found a lhd Mk2 granny rack (which looks similar to the cortina style), and a lhd mk3 granny rack (which looks like the Sierra style). Which would be simpler to mod on? Or would a Sierra one be simpler? Much obliged.

Hi, apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but I was wondering what was happening with the car? I have spent the day working on my car, which I bought having wanted to build a modded cortina since seeing The Streets of San Francisco at a car show some time in the mid 90s 👍

Thanks, I will bear it in mind if my repair is disastrous! Was going to weld today but the rear quarterlight took longer than expected (ie I am sloooooow)
-
For £20 of offcut/remnant, I figure it's worth a go!
-
There is nothing like that near me unfortunately, but thanks for the reply
-
I was planning to use my old carpet as a template and cut a new one - haven't tried to yet but it seems a straightforward shape?
-
Thanks for the reply. I will fill it with water and give welding it a go. I subsequently found a pinhole on the top of the the tank so will try liquid metal on that. Thanks
-
I finally thought there was a component on my 7 9 2-door that doesn't need throwing away until I chipped off the fiberglass filler and found a tiny 10mm or so slit. It's on the back rear quarter so I guess they reversed in to something. What, if any, are my safe, legal, and effective options for repairing. I believe welding fuel tanks is not legal (and dangerous!). Thanks
-
Thanks for that. I went rummaging in the shed and my new (to me) v6 engine already has a pump on it already.
-
Thanks for the heads up. Can this be used with the early and later racks (steel and alloy)? The rack itself seems to be the tricky bit to source, so I am wary of buying parts that might not fit. Thanks
-
Thanks for the reply. I have seen the left-hand manual rack on Ebay, but haven't seen a PAS one.
-
I know it's a long shot, but anyone got one knocking about? I've seen a few ancient threads offering these for sale, so perhaps there's still one tucked away? Thanks
