  1. Isn't that Retroford's Cortina now? Sure I've seen it in their adverts.. Just Checked their website, their Cortina is VAM125D, close though....
  2. Weak spots on a crossflow are timing chain (Upgrade to duplex) and rocker posts (Upgrade to steel). I'd rebuild your original unit, the best power increases are from cam and head work, spend your budget there.
  3. You have to change the ring gear iirc. I fitted a Hi-Torque starter motor to my Lotus powered Mk1, it was much easier and started much better afterwards.
  4. I think you'll struggle to get the Diff cover off an English axle though...
  5. The filler pipe on a Mk2 tank is a much larger diameter than the Mk1 too.
  6. I guess they are not stupid as they seem to easily hack genuine ebay accounts with ease?
  7. Has the flywheel been off and has it been torqued up, all the symptoms could point to a loose flywheel? Early 4 bolt cranks relied on a locking plate to keep the flywheel bolts becoming loose, later 6 bolt cranks required all 6 bolts to be tightened to the correct torque to stop them loosening..
  8. Tunnel Mods to accommodate the bigger box RS 2000 Bell housing New clutch driven plate Covert to cable clutch or parts to retain hydraulic operation Front/gearbox prop shaft yoke to suit T9 box New hole for the gear lever Reposition handbrake as it will interfere with the gear lever. Maybe more?
  9. Yes Rev counters can be converted, it's just a case of de-soldering an internal wire (Black IIRC) and re-positioning it on to an alternative terminal. The drawing used to be on the Mk1 Owners club website posted by their (Late?) Technical Guru. Keith (Lotuscops) on here should be able to find it for you?
  10. She was amazing, and kinda scary too!
  11. Long gone now, but you can just make out their painted sign. I remember the "not young" lady behind the counter knew more about camshafts than anybody I've met since!
  12. I believe Lotus used Dellortos on 60s/70's Elans when they couldn't get webers? As yours is the same CC and being stage 3 will have the same sort of breathing capabilities, as a starting point I'd say the same jetting as these lotus engines. I no longer have any manuals covering these engines but might be worth going on early Elan/Europa club web sites and asking?
  13. Oops! You're going to hate me, out in the garage this morning and checked the correct sizes for late and early blocks. The correct size is 1/4" to 1/8" BSP as per link. Message the seller and see if you can swap it for the correct one, sorry! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bsp-Brass-Adaptor-reducer-Male-1-4-to-1-8-Bsp-Fem-Pneumatic-oil-water/121073309731?hash=item1c30881823:g:QmsAAOxy7nNTPqvk
  14. Assume you have the Mk1 GT remote fitted? Then a Mk1 Cortina O/c bush kit, if it's really slack, and loads of grease in the base of the gear lever ball and cup cures it.
  15. You need one of these, then the sender will fit the later block.. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SOLID-BRASS-3-8-BSPT-MALE-REDUCER-TO-1-4-BSP-FEMALE-GAUGE-ADAPTER-REDUCING-BUSH/292996550128?hash=item4437f48df0:g:O1MAAOSwQjNW~PVu

I had your trouble, hammers and keyboards don't mix apparently? Welcome aboard.
  17. I will live to fight again... Just read your Cortina build through - Wow!
  18. Yes they are wrinkled and old looking just like my face Keith.
  19. Petrol tank welded up successfully, and I'm still alive and intact. In the spirit of the Oscars, I'd like to thank BOC, but especially thankyou to Fairy liquid for keeping me alive...
  20. For that reason I only drink Neat Whiskey Keith...
  21. I haven't got a steam cleaner but I will do the rest..
  22. Definitely the best advice... However £300 + VAT for a new tank against a 10 minute repair I have removed the tank from the car, I will wash it out vigorously with soapy water and then carry out the repair outside at least 50 feet from anything valuable. What on earth could go wrong?
