  1. Hi Paul, it was good to meet you at the Kent Chrome and Cruisers on Monday and get to see your Huntsman's fabulous condition in the flesh. I've just read through all the pages here of your LS running restoration and think it will eventually be every bit as good as your estate. Keep posting the up dates ;-) Regards Dave
  2. Wow, that looks great and is a testament to all your hard work in preparing it. It's so nice to see such thorough work in a restoration.
  3. Well I tried disconnecting the vacuum pipe to the servo and blanked off the manifold end, but still the same problem. I even blocked off the pcv valve in case that was making the mixture too lean, but again no improvement. I'm now convinced it must be the jetting, so I'm desperate for advise on whats needed for my particular carb (weber 32/36 DGV FA) Cheers
  4. My old next door neighbours had one up until roughly 1995 and I remember it was either black or a very dark blue and had fish net recaro seats in the front. They kept it in immaculate condition and it stood out amongst other cars, one reason it took my notice. If the next owners took the same approach to looking after it, it would certainly have survived, but I doubt it as generally people don't 'adore' their cars like they once did alas.
  5. When I was growing up in the late 70's - early 80s, I was already a big car fan and often saw a blue MK1 Cortina with the then current 'van' bubble glass windows in the top of it. It may have had murals, though I can't be sure after all this time, but I remember it had a roof mounted control consul and that it was around for a good few years as I remember it deteriorating much to my disdain. I'd love to see some pics of it !!!!!!
  6. That's sad as we don't seem to have many survivors from the custom car scene where so many cars were the focus of so much attention and money spent.

    Me 1600E

A truly beautiful car and a credit to you Baz in your thoroughness and attention to fine detail. Best of luck with the sale as it's worth every penny if not more.
  8. Just been looking through some of the past posts of custom and altered Cortina's and took a bit of a shine to the SKULLDUGGERY MK1 CORTY. I'm not that impressed with the radiator grill but appreciate that was the done thing back then, but like the rest of the cars exterior. Did it survive, I hope so ?????
  9. Hi dgo, I set the idle/mixture up today as per the link and took it out for a spin. Sorry to have to report that the same problem is present still, but I had a thought what possibly might be causing it. A while back I fitted a remote brake servo to the car but never fitted an inline non return valve and as I'm a my wits end trying to sort this, I was hopeful that this could be the culprit. What do you think mate ???? Cheers Dave
  10. Well I had an afternoon working on the engine today and even took the radiator out to ensure timing marks were as they should be set. All OK in that area, so next I went over the inlet manifold to make sure that everything was tight and that the pipes are all in good order - again all is well. I haven't yet had a go at setting the idle adjustment using the link you suggested as I'd had enough for today, so that will be tomorrows adventure - lol. Oh yeah, nearly forgot to mention, that the other markings on the carb body are 2336 I don't know if this is helpful at all. Cheers Dave
  11. Hi dgo, in an earlier attempt to solve my problems with the car I was suspicious of the dizzy, but since that time I have changed from points to electronic and back to points again in a futile attempt to solve things. Regarding the carb, it's a dgv fa as fitted to MK1 Escort RS models and I only changed the main jets but have also tried another twin choke weber which resulted in the same running. A couple of months ago I took the head off and decoked it and of course fitted new head gasket and inlet and exhaust ones to and then adjusted the valve timing. I'm really confused now as to why it is running the way it is, that is why I was suspicious of the pcv valve affecting the mixture.
  12. This problem has been ongoing for some time, but as the car only gets occasional use, I've never gotten to bottom of it. Anyway, I replaced the main jets with the same size as the existing ones (140 and 135), the timing is set to allow for unleaded but I didn't know about the adjustments for the idle jets - could this be the cause ????? Plugs are new and valve clearances have been set and I'm sure that the pipes to the inlet are secure as I've checked them repeatedly - lol.
  13. Having problems with my pinto engine on the overrun. When backing off the gas pedal the engine jerks quite badly until I increase the revs again, although when idling it is completely fine. The engine is a 1600 which has done about 55,000 miles and is fitted with a Weber 32/36 dgv fa (old RS2000 one) and I have installed new main jets, accelerator diaphragm and spacer gasket at the base. The carb has been thoroughly cleaned and the all the airways blasted through with compressed air and the float set correctly. I have even tried running it with the vacuum advance pipe blocked off, but this didn't seem to make any difference I am puzzled as to what the cause is, although somebody did mention that it might be the PCV valve affecting the vacuum if it was worn out ????? Any suggestions guys !!!
  14. I'm a dedicated die hard Ford enthusiast. I love most Fords from the 20's through to the 80's and am passionate about seeing them restored.

  15. Yep, that's my registration gpcmatric. Hmm, how did you know??????????? Anyway, I have been busy over the past few months of ownership cutting out the rot and letting in new metal as I travel through the car. Things have slowed a bit due to ill health and not being able to work, but I still keep doing work on her and she is finally taking shape albeit in primer.
