Hi guys. Sorry for not replying, I've been away on holiday. Yes mark, the accident damage is only the wing (which currently has the unpainted one fitted). Original damaged wing is included in sale. Hi Bortaf, how you doing? - yes, she's for sale with spares to make it a great (and easy project). If you know anyone who would be interested in making an offer...

Hi peeps Swapped alloys off my mk4 but I have lost the locking wheel nut key. Currently only have 3 nuts on each wheel :( and it's MoT time. Does anyone know what the thread size and pitch of the wheel nuts? I don't have any way of measuring them. 1976 mk4 4 door 1.6 GL. (standard 4x108 pcd, if it makes any difference) I need to get the MoT done and I know they'll have something to say about only have 3 on each wheel... Can anyone help?

Thanks Jason. I'm open to either 1.8 or 2L really, as I can get a 1.8 real easily. If I go 1.8, is it easy to swap on a 2L if I want to later? Would mounting points be similar, for instance? Thanks all. I just need to make a decision and go shopping. P.s. my plan was always to run aftermarket injection and ignition... Thanks!!

Wow cheers guys! Loads of stuff to check out! Thanks!!

Howdy gang. I currently putting a plan together for a potential modern engine swap. I've found out bits and pieces and the stuff required. One question however, is the differences between 'zetec' engines. Can anyone help out with a brief guide? Which is good, which is rubbish etc. I would really appreciate it. I'm a Renault/Citroen guy (love the French!) so fords are a bot of a grey area to me... I've even heard that 1.8 zetecs are a good engine (I was assuming 2 litre is the one to go for but I'm open to persuasion); are the fittings required for 1.8 or 2L the same? The engines look a bit similar... Any help gratefully received!!

and to second what beowolf and markymarkthree said, pintos are great engines to learn on. I've learnt loads in my time. And i've found many many times (including last night!!) that putting the HT leads back in the right always helps :shocking: true, learning using non-standard kit might make it a bit harder, but sod it. Sounds like you got it sussed anyway.

whip cam cover off. rotate crank until cam lobe for the inlet valve on cylinder 1 is just about to open the inlet valve. Thats TDC. Obviously, make sure the crank pulley is lined up with it's pointer. if it's out, take belt off and reposition. Simple.

hi gang any guys have any ideas how to remove the deposits left by evaporating coolant on engines and stuff when you've had a long term slow coolant leak? Any sneaky tips? Cillit-bang? ;)

e'yup peeps I have new door skins for my mk4. People have already advised me it's easier to replace whole doors than skins. My door skins cost FA. Complete doors are pricy on the Bay. 1-0 to me i reckon. Anyhoo, the skins dont have the metal pins that the trim clips mount onto for the trim strips to clip to. I know where to source the clips but the little metal studs will need welding to the skin. Any idea where i could get some? Apart from chopping down small nails...

any suggestions where i can get better seals?

I'm using an inline coolant switch housing sourced from a kitcar parts supplier (i don't like the look of the variable units like the Kenlowes; this looks neater and is certainly cheaper). The twin fan assembly is from a scrap mondeo (only using one fan tho)

cheers dgo it hadn't crossed my mind at all about what temp the thermostat opens; what a numpty! I'm pretty certain its standard so i agree that 95 sounds good... Already have an overflow tank fitted. :)

howdy peeps. i have a mk2 mondeo electric fan assembly which i'm going to fit to my mk4. I'm sure plenty of you out there have done something similar. However, i have a choice of 2 fan switches i can use. One switches fan on at 88 degrees C and off at 79 degrees C. The other switches fan on at 95 degrees C and off at 86 degrees C. Any ideas/recommendation? i'm thinking 95/86 meself...
