Any ideas where to get a Mark 2 (series 1) 1600E petrol tank these days and are they costly (if even available)? Thanks all

Hearing through the classic scene up here that Russell now has a '86 VW Scirroco I can't keep up with how many cars he has for such short periods of time!! -

Hi Tony Am hearing through the local grapevine that Russell may now have a Mercedes 124W . Cheers, Grant -
How long have you owned your Cortina?

Ahh, "Gypfast" paint Cambelt66 brings back memories. My first 1600E was painted with that in 1978 but am sure its illegal/poisonous these days? :toilet: I still have RRC 454F a dragoon red 1600E Series 1 and approaching near 15 years of ownership now and a part of the family. -
Yes I recall John got his Savage from Martin Frow around '93 but I do remember the silver fox one at Lilford in '84 and DJE979V might have been the number but the chap said he was giving it to his Grandson, however I recall a note on BSC site years ago that he didn't want it
-
Funny thing is Tony that I would have thought that as well, but John told me that the red 1600E I have (his old one RRC454F) he preferred any day to the Savage :shocking: . In fact it was only a few years ago he asked me if he could borrow RRC for his daughters wedding as it was her favourite car as well and of course I obliged  , but the distance from Dunfermline to Derby put him off. I suggested a transport courier lorry but he got her........a Morris Minor instead :bag: . However a great day was had by all :wine:

Thats a shame as I always found Trevor very helpful by phone or snail mail during the 80's but I seem to recall John Kirk telling me after the prizegiving at Lilford in 1990 he was moving on to other things which ties in exactly with your comments Tony. On the Savage subject, I wonder where John Kirks red Savage Estate is now that he bought from Martin Frow and am sure it ended in 7G on the number plate?

That picture is exactly how I remember it goldsavage and still has the same number plates as I seen in '84 :playball: The old grey matter hasn't let me down Tony which am pleased about :showoff: but ask me what I did yesterday and I will have to think about it  Anyone know how Trevor Smith is these days as am sure he sold CAN and got a Morris Minor but had a Scimitar. Sad bit for me about all this was that Gary offered me his Anchor Blue Savage (CGF 892H I think it was) in 1987 for £2000 but being in my early 20's with a mortgage etc put stop to that which was a big chance missed (he spoke about wanting an E type Jag I think). Tubbs transformed it brilliantly though as I remember it had an awful pop up glass sunroof and loud Appliance type 4 spoke wheels with a 3000E badge from a Capri on the boot amongst other small points. On the Savage subject, I worked with the Architects who designed the BCA Car Auction site at Blackbushe Airport and highlight for everyone was that Prince Michael of Kent officially opened it in early '86, except for me as on that day the icing on the cake was that they had an anchor blue Savage in the Concourse on display reg VYP11G I think it was and am sure I have a pic somewhere so will try a visit to "The Loft" this weekend to see if I can find it. Cheers all  Grant

I recall CAN189H being pulled from a garage around Portsmouth in 1984 and I had pics of it. Being so long ago, the old grey matter is a bit vague but I can recall it had blue paper sticking out the upper twin tank and had silver letter plastic type number plates and the back panel was white as per the car. I think it also had some kind of mini flares on the arches(?) but I gave all my pics to BSC Tubbs some 15 years or so ago when he had Gary's old Anchor Blue Savage which I also had pics. I recall Gary picking me up in Gosport in summer 1985 in CGF and cruising along the A27 to the Bluebell Railway in West Sussex for a 1600E Enthusiast Rally. The good old days.......

I seem to recall (albeit 35 years ago! :shocking: ) that I got the wrong cable for my Series 2 (as was for a series 1) and had to file an area of the flat part that fits in the gearbox flange as it was slightly too thick to make it fit and lock in place. It was a minor job and I think everything else was OK though :playball: Someone on BSC will no doubt be able to clarify this for you.

Hi Alister Thats excellent and many thanks for your quick response. Best regards Grant

Hi Dave Definitely were both E's. Cheers

Anyone know much a standard Cortina Mark 2 Starter Motor weighs for Parcelforce(I don't have any scales)as I have to return mine to the Owners Club on exchange Many thanks
-
Hi Dave that explains all  and both my Series 1's never had that part you show for some reason (and I don't know why :headscratch: ) Cheers Grant

Thanks for the feedback folks  Its just I had a Series 1 in 1980 and also have one just now yet both had the grille badge (in red colour) without the top part fitted (which left just a void where the push button would be). Both pull handles fitted to both cars were very much home made awkward things that never operate properly. The Series 2 that I had in mid 80's had a full height one piece blue grille badge with a perfect fitting/operating bonnet pull release handle. On this basis, is there any difference between the Series 1 & 2 pull handle arrangements or were they both identical. :headscratch: Thanks all Grant
