  1. The larger of the two, on the left is probably a new seal for the reservoir cap..... not sure about the other one.
  2. I've just managed to buy a new master cylinder for £40.81. If you search cvpartsinmotion they did have a few for sale for the Mk5 Cortina from 79 to 82 with the ATE system. It's not arrived yet, so will see if it's the correct fitment.
  3. I've also got a LHD Ford Mustang, LHD cars are easy to drive in the UK, takes a few hours to aclimatise yourself. The Mustang has 350bhp so overtaking is relatively easy as you just hang back further to get a better view and when clear just gun it, might be more difficult in a 95bhp 2.0 Cortina! I would keep a Cortina/Taunus LHD as you have said.
  4. If you can't get the wire version as fitted to most old Fords, you can (or could)buy a Ford Transit one which looks like a small white porcelain block and wire that in. I had to do this on a Escort RS2000 when my ballast wire burnt out and took part of the loom with it. It looked just like this one....... http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574629005&toolid=10001&campid=5335900709&customid=&mpre=http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AccuSpark-Ballast-Resistor-for-use-with-a-1-5-Ohms-Ballast-coil-/170917459869?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27cb79779d
  5. A 1975 Mk3 2.0 GT with rectangular headlamps, but round spotlamps, black tombstone front seats.....white in colour with a black vinyl roof.....I loved that car (RIP.....HUT199N).Although I would prefere a two door version this time around.
  6. Is there a separate detent spring that does what you want, or is it the job of one of these on a type 9 ? http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574629005&toolid=10001&campid=5335900709&customid=&mpre=http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-GENUINE-FORD-Type-9-Gearbox-Gearstick-Saddle-Rail-Clip-Sierra-Cosworth-etc-/160936757326?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item257894084e If it's the above. it's very easy to fit a new one with no magor dismantling required. Weak Spark

Is the coil the correct one? is it for a non ballast resister car or vice versa. If its a 12V coil and you have a ballast resister it won't be getting the required voltage as most of this will be diverted to the starter motor whilst starting. I have a device made by startright? I believe, its a bit like a plastic pair of scissors with two terminals on it, you connect your H/T lead to one side and touch the spark plug with the other terminal, the car runs and you gradually open the "pair of scissors" until the car begins to misfire, and the spark stuggles to jump the gap,you then read off a scale to see if you have an ignition problem.Great bit of kit, only about £7.00, but alas just looked on Ebay and cant find any. As you have found out, it can look like you have a spark, but it's not good enough to run the car, or at least during the starting phase.
  8. I couldn't agree more, if he paid £1100 and has spent a bit of time cleaning it up I would have thought £4400 was a good price for it. If you look really closely at the photos there appears to be the odd blemish on the car, rust bubbles where the lower front O/S wing meets the valence, scuffs on both rear corner bumpers and all of the wheel arch inner lips have been blacked indicating there maybe rust issues. It's a nice car, but I'm sure if I went to look at it I would find more problems which I wouldn't expect on a car in that price range. If I was in the market for a £4400 plus MK5 Cortina,I would want less problems than this car appears to have.
  9. It's a long shot.... but I once had a Mk 2 Escort Mexico (2.0 pinto fitted) and twin choke webber which I'm assuming your Cortina has. When I bought it, it would tickover for ages, it would even drive for a few miles at slow speed, but as soon as you booted it, it wanted to cut out or it did cut out. It would easily restart after a second or two of turning over. Much head scratching later, I found the problem..... the previous owner had put the supply and return petrol pipes onto the wrong outlets on the carb, swapped them over and it went like hot $not. Worth a look.
  10. I believe it will be the red one, similar to the one below. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574629005&toolid=10001&campid=5335900709&customid=&mpre=http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-ESCORT-MK-3-4-WIPER-INTERVAL-RELAY-RS-TURBO-XR3I-RS1600-ETC-/261111272435?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3ccb71d3f3
  11. There's one for sale on Ebay...... in Ireland, so probably not recorded on DVLA system. Has been off the road for a number of years according to the seller. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574629005&toolid=10001&campid=5335900709&customid=&mpre=http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160894672251?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

    come on......?

6 whole bids!!! and fetched almost £30 :headscratch:
  13. MMmmm, I've always found them nearly spot on, has yours had the head skimmed or reworked? :headscratch:
  14. Keep the MOT, but stop pre 1982 (rolling 30yr) requiring road tax (VEL), as once was the case with the rolling 25 year road tax exemption.
  15. Here's another idea for the brave....... If you purchase the following smoke pellets, which are designed for testing chimneys etc, they give off a completely harmless odourless grey smoke for just over a minute, this completely fills the car with a thick smoke which prevents you doing anything in the car, it's so dense that you cannot see through from one side of the car to the other. I set one of these off in my last MK5 and it amazed me how the smoke managed to escape from little places around the car..... the grey end of the pellet is designed to self ignite (only smoulders and gets warm) when it touches a heat source, so the idea was to wire it so its touching a car cigarette lighter element, and when that receives current from your car alarm or hidden timer switch, hey presto, the thief thinks the car is on fire and legs it.I can assure you that the smoke disappears in a couple of minutes when the doors are opened, it does not damage anything and leaves no lasting odours or discolours anything. When emitting the smoke, the device gets only slightly warm so there is no chance of any combustion providing the cigarette lighter is on a timer for say 20seconds.Even so, it would be advisable for it to be placed in something like a small metal container with holes in to let the smoke out. Drawbacks.... you don't want an unreliable alarm that goes off every night and hence triggers the smoke pellet, and could it give the thief the idea of actually setting the car on fire? I would think that confronted with a car thats alarm is sounding and lights are flashing and is also filling with smoke that he legs it! Just another madcap idea that needs a little bit of development.......... http://www.diytools.co.uk/monument-1470f-smoke-pellets-pack-of-10.html?utm_source=Google-Product-Search&utm_medium=Organic-Feed&utm_campaign=Google-Product-Search&gclid=CITos8O407ICFaTHtAodrQgAYg Paul
