  1. Brake unions used on mk1 and mk2 are imperial 3/8 u.n.f. thread.
  2. Goodwood green is the dark green used up to 1965. 1966 model cars, the dark green is Alpina green, same as used on the mk2 and early escort.
  3. Original Minlites, from before Tech Del went bust in the eighties, use sleeve nuts, but the repro ones from the "new" tech del company use normal alloy wheel type nuts which are available from wheel suppliers. Longer 7/16 u.n.f. wheel studs are not a problem either, I was able to get them from a local motorsport parts supplier. Tommy
  4. Used to be a classic rally car too. Tommy
  5. YES!!! AIA1010 reappears, must be only one of a couple of mk1 cortinas left, that have a County Antrim, Northern Ireland registration and has to be the only 2 door GT. My dad's old car had an AIA numberplate and I love to see a mk1 with that reg. Tommy
  6. Look like 4 door ones to me. Tommy
  7. Go to any battery place and ask them to order an 037 battery. That is the correct square post battery and also fits rwd escorts. I got one from my local tyre and battery place last year, no problem, just had to be ordered in, as they didn't keep one in stock. Tommy P.S. 038 is the correct size/shape battery, but with round posts and is also available without difficulty, as I got one recently for my Talbot Sunbeam.
  8. Can't be a 1962 gt, as gt was released until 1963.
  9. Mk1 cortina owners club, or expressed steel panels. Tommy They both do nearly every panel you could need for a mk1, only problem is they both have big demand for panels at the minute, If it's on the shelf you will get it quick, but if it is out of stock you may have a wait. Expressed have been so busy that some bits I ordered took 3 months to make and deliver. Tommy
  10. Mk1 cortina owners club, or expressed steel panels. Tommy
  11. Not 100% Dave, but is it the same as the MK2 RS2000 escort where the TCA bolt holes are drilled in a different place to the std ones ? According to my Ford parts book there are 4 different crossmembers, 1200 standard, 1200 heavy duty, 1500 standard and 1500 heavy duty. The lotus cortina is listed, as using the 1500 standard crossmember and there is no "gt" crossmember listed. Tommy I didnt think there was a GT one but got an adament ebayer "ye the gt had its own crossmember the standard had less steel going up to the enginemount i have this one but if i can finde the right one i will replace it " maybe he has 1200 one ( to be honest I didnt know 1200 was different to 1500 ) or hes looking for the heavy duty one Only other crossmember listing I have, is in the Ford Book of Plus Performance (competition parts available from Boreham). This lists "A modified crossmember giving zero to 1 degree negative camber for improved road-holding and self centring characteristics. Complete with extension arms and bump stops." Tommy

  13. Not as far as I know, but there is a heavy duty export crossmember, with the "wings" for fitting bump stops. Tommy
  14. Mk1 and mk2 are both hydraulic clutch so you won't need to fit a mk2 pedal box for that, but would make the conversion to cable throttle easier. Probably easiest to fit the mk2 bellhousing clutch and clutch operating mechanism too. That will give the better 3 bolt starter mounting as well. Might have to change the spigot bush in the rear of the crank too, depending on whether your gearbox input shaft is the big diameter one or small one (mk1 can be either and mk2 uses the small one) Tommy

    Spotlamps

Depends what sort of spotlamps you want to fit, small 60s stye lamps you can fit by making a bracket that bolts to the bumper irons, but big lamps, like cibie oscars etc, you would need to make brackets to attach them to the front panel. Tommy
  16. You could get mk2 lotus's in standard shades too or just have it white if you wanted to keep your head down. Not sure about mk1's though MK1S WERE ALL WHITE WITH GREEN STRIPE apart from specials built in race team colours and built by Lotus mk2s were whatever colour you wanted same as the rest of the range and built by Ford , stipes painted on by the dealer if thats what you wanted Apart from Ford works rally mk1 Loti which were built by Ford at Boreham, a lot of which were red and there is also supposed to be a mk1 lotus originally build in gold, to special order, but there is still some debate over it. Tommy
  17. Take the door trim off the side with the swimming pool and make sure the plastic membrane is intact/fitted right behind it . If not, water coming in past the window seal can leak into the car.(had the same problem on a golf gti I used to own) Tommy
  18. 037(flat post) or 038 (round post) battery will fit in the tray. Tommy
  19. 1600 mk2, as the mk1 and mk2 floorpans are pretty much the same. Tommy
  20. 1600 crossflow from a mk2 cortina (front pan sump) will go straight in and bolt to your existing gearbox. Clutch and throttle linkage will need a bit of work though. You can also fit the mk2 cortina engine and box together, but will have to cut the gearbox tunnel to fit the lever. Rack and pinion conversion is more involved engineering wise, but a kit is available. Escort and capri bits don't just fit straight on and some modifying of car and crossmember is required. Personally I find the steering box set up works great and won't drive any worse than a mk3/4/5, but only if all the joints are good and the steering box in good order (especially if you have a gt steering box with 3.5 turns lock to lock, instead of standard 4.5). Tommy
  21. Round post battery of the same physical size is a 038, as fitted to talbot sunbeam and avenger. Tommy
  22. Sorry pressed the add reply button by mistake, have now edited post with correct info. Tommy
  23. Battery to fit a mk1 cortina is still available and it's the same battery that fits a mk1 escort. A good tyre and battery place will order one for you. If I remember correctly 037 is the right type number. Tommy

    mk1 parts required

mk1 cortina owners club or Expressed steel will do most of the panels you will need. Tommy
  25. It depends on what part of the car you are repairing. Something like a floorpan or wing will be about 1mm thick, but heavier stuctural parts will be 1.5 or even 2mm. Tommy
