  1. This may not be the right bit of the site for this but my mate Dave Walker (CCC, PPC, EMERALD CAMS, EMERALD M3D ECUs) has started posting video's on YouTube. He did the ECU in my 24v Cosworth Cortina and is an absolute diamond geezer who is always helpful. Have a look! I actually learned something new from his video on Air/Fuel ratio: https://www.youtube.com/@EmeraldM3D-Dave/videos
  2. You're right! A bit more googling showed that Jag Dhaliwal had it built by Johan Fritz in SA, then imported it.
  3. It looks like someone in the UK has managed to get hold of the Saffer cortina bits: Jag Dhaliwal Or did they import the whole car?
  4. Just found another one! https://www.facebook.com/p/Johans-Auto-100064047819870/
  5. There is a company in South Africa making Mk 4/5 body kit parts, there are a lot of photos on his facebook pages: Sadesh Lukkan They look good but shipping might be prohibitively expensive.
  6. !3 years on and I need to put the wings back on my MK5 but can't find all the bolts, this thread gave me a clue: and by googling the FINIS code I got the screw dimensions as 6.5 X 19mm. This is No. 14 x 3/4 in old money and the type of fastener is an ACME screw. The cheapest I found on eBay are these at £5.64 for 20. I'll use the shiny new ones on the wing tops and the old ones underneath. I hope this helps somebody.
  7. Hi, I'm back on the forum after too many years as I have dug my 24v swapped Mk5 out of the shed (12 years!!!!) and started recommissioning it. Time in a damp shed was not kind to it and the bottom of the 'A' pillars and jacking points  had rotted out. That's fixed now and it's slowly going back together.

I have just used the VIN plate decoder that you and Neil made to get a lot of build data and to check the paint really is Strato Silver.

There's another data plate on the passenger side of the bonnet slam panel and I'd like to decode this, I have attached a picture. Can you help or point me in the right direction?

    Thanks

    Paul

  9. I've just stuck a 24v Scorpio (BOA) on eBay, it's the same engine as i have in my MK5, It was my daily driver but now it only has tax and MOT to the end of October so it has to go while someone can still drive it away. Engine good, the rest is not so good I counted up the BOAs I have in the shed, got to three and decided that this one was surplus to requirements as a spare so it's up for grabs. Here is the brutally honest eBay listing 24v Scrappio on t'bay If the engine's going in a Cortina you get tea and biscuits when you pick it up
  10. Maybe a mobile pirate radio station? They could drive around broadcasting inconspicuously, and the Home Office would be baffled! Or maybe a way of moving large springs without getting them all tangled up?
  11. Here's a picture of some 70's engineers at Dunton using their state of the art electronic data recorder which happens to be big enough to require it's own Cortina estate to carry it about. The cable looks a bit hefty too Check out the 'burns and porno tache on the Escort driver!
  12. Well done for finding that! Are the hose connections the same size as Cortina ones? If so, I'll be buying one myself.
  13. What was I on! :P The wing is for the drivers side and now has a bit of surface rust and the plastic trim is for the front bumper of a Mk3 2000E or even a GXL After taking advice from the Sage of Enfield, I now believe the Mk3 front lower panel (Valance) and it's inner panel (three big holes and lives under the radiator) are even rarer.:o These, and a load more panels are now on Ebay. My Ebay name is chimpteaser as well, bid early and bid often!
  14. The JCB is off the naughty step at the moment, I have fixed the massive hydraulic fluid leak (had to 'top it up' with 30 litres of oil. ), replaced a burst pipe to the back bucket (3m of hose and two fittings cost £80 to replace  ) and rebuilt the starter motor. The last time I was driving it, it sank into a boggy patch and I had to pull myself out with the arm, then I foolishly scooped some 'stuff' out of an old septic tank, I soon put it back again! Next job is working out a way of flushing all the crap out of the fuel tank to unleash the full majestic power of the thing. I now have two 8ft high bonfires ready to light when you next come down, if we wait until it's dark the old tyres will burn without smoke as well. Plenty of birthday cider left too.
  15. No Rob, it's just right. If it didn't have the big front callipers I think it would have ended up too stiff. As it is the Mondeo callipers have increased the total piston area (including the rear drums) by 20.7%. If I had fitted a Granada 23mm MC that would have increased the MC piston area by 24.6% so the pedal would be 4% stiffer than standard even with big callipers which I probably wouldn't notice. I wanted to be stiffer then that  so the LR part worked well. There is another LR MC, Lucas part PNM 101 that's 26.9mm, that's the one people use with rear disc conversions and really big piston fronts. That would have stiffened a std system by 70% and my system by about 50% which would definitely be over the top. Who are you calling Ginger? It's not that rusty, there's still some red paint left on the roof, anyway the poor battered car is going in to get the dents and rusty sill fixed in May. Who knows, I might even take time out from JCB fixing to tidy up the wiring. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Viagra yet, oops.... I just did.
