XR6 3 Posted April 21, 2006 I understand that you are weighing up the facts XR6, else why would you be posting questions here? I'd like to assure you that it wasn't a direct attack on you, but rather a chance to voice my concerns over the number of ill thought out and badly executed modifications there are on road and track cars alike. The more dangerous modified cars there are on the roads, the more likely there are to be accidents involving modified cars, and the statistics will lead the government to bring in draconian rules covering modified cars, with special MOTs and the like... Whilst on one side I would welcome that as it would highlight all the dodgy motors on the roads, it would more than likely knee-jerk the rules too far, meaning no upgrades unless they are supplied by a licenced manufacturer; you car's not popular, the aftermarket doesn't support you....! However, to lead me back to your previous comment, XR6, if you don't know what effect a panhard rod will have on you handling, then you don't know what a panhard rod IS, in terms off underlying form. I appreciate that you understand the concept of a panhard rod from apperance and asthetics, but that would just put it in the same catagory as a rose jointed washing line prop. Whilst not a direct attack on you, the question is, that for every person who comes forward seeking knowledge about the underlying form of a performance modifcation, how many are pleased to acheive the asthetic requirements and leave it at that? I had a 'mate' who ordered an 1800cc, crate racing engine from the states, with a supercharger kit and fuel injection, to go into a VW beetle. Whilst we were chatting, one day, he happened to ask me wether I thought if he would be allright using the standard engine mounts, little more than bent peices of tin! A combination of my imediate horror and subsequent explanation persueded him to get some proper mounts made up, to handle the c.250bhp. I sometimes wonder to myself what would of happened if he hadn't thought to ask, and had just gone ahead anyway.... That's just one example, but it puts across my point; you can never ask enough questions, of enough different people, and read everything on the subject. Don't take anyones word for it or belive what you read, but cross refernce it all against eachother and you should end up with the truth :) 116727[/snapback] O.K Fair comment  I agree with you, I am taking on everybodys few and coming up with answers of my own, weather they are right or wrong, being a fledgling and a bit wet behind the ears its a.... big big learning curve . what do you think of the kiddies stablizers idea

sheffieldcortinacentre 765 Posted April 22, 2006 AHA the famous XR6(according to the cortina expert author) NHK 244 V was not an XR6 (2drs where not sold in the african/aus market after the mk2) but a factory backed 2dr useing the bits homologated for them. there was rumoured to be a complete spare shell for the car. that photo was taken on the cicuit of ireland in 83/4. driver was julian porter. present conditio/whereabouts unknown not taxed since around 1990. anyone knowing of this car should beaware its value is worthless & should therefore send it straight to me for disposal. (do you think they'll beleave the last bit???? should do!)

do it sideways 41 Posted April 23, 2006  first chance ive had to read this thread, rear susspesion, first off ive got to say i have modified many many cortinas and tryed most types of set up,the first thing with the cortina set up is that the rear anti roll bar was a bit of a bodge on fords part, as was the panard rod, but it was a step forward, if you want to sort your rear end out, fit the panard rod after you have re located your top arms to be parrallel to the bottom arms and fit a anti roll bar to the body and then down to the axle at the bottom arm location , as near to the axle as posible, this will make your mk3/4/5 handle, as long as the front end of you car is set up properly, remember the cortina is a very front heavy car even with the pinto in it, i fit the sierra rear end because it transforms the handling , comes with a LSD and disc brakes , and works out a cheap option , but what do i know !

blackadder 0 Posted May 2, 2006 Thankyou steve, see my first post on this subject. What sort of money do you charge for the sierra rear end conversion, assuming you were supplied with the parts. Are you happy to post rough cost up here so people know? proberbly similar to the price of a used 2.8i lsd axle???? PS I like the stabalisers idea :o
