I dont think the car will be back till next year

Recommended Posts

At last I have managed to strip the engine down to basics, what I have found so far is a broken timing chain bottom sprocket, this when it broke managed to bend the nose of the crank, not too sure what it has done to the bearings, but the engiine was at 7k just before it went pooo, I am asuming the chain went slack on over-run and climbed the sprocket knocking off a tooth and jaming into the gear by the keyway resulting in the gear exploding.

I have also found some snapped rocker arms, obviously caused by the pistons hitting valves, and there are plenty of witness marks to prove this on valves and pistons, No serious damage to the pistons, but I will change the valves, If I can get them,,

So in retrospect, I have got off lightly with no real damage to ireplacable parts, I have got a spare crank, so theres not really much to extra needed apart from Valves, timing chain and gasket set, A new set of rings will be also fitted, but these are no longer made for the pistons, so I may have to get a set made

A few mods may be made to get a bit mors speed out of the engine, a bit more compression, probably will mechanically top out around 13-1 but with the overlap in the cam will be a bit lower. and a sniff of gas may be on the way, watch this space certainly should have a 11 sec car, and if every thing holds together maybe a 10 sec car with a 150 shot  :D :D :D

Ian
