Clutch Ratchet :(

Recommended Posts

Got my car back on the road after much expense and then the clutch ratchet broke  Im assuming its broken, a spring dropped on the floor under the peddle and now it feels wierd and wont go into gear... I assume its broken although my countless efforts at trying to see/feel it have not really been succesful.

Does anyone have one i can buy from them? And any advice on fitting one? I want my car back!! :gun:

no mines a pearl one, TBH you might not have a choice, not seen a ford on for a while, used pearl before but not put more than 10K on one yet so how long they last i couldn't say (except they do 10 K of my driving) so far

One of the best solution years ago was to use a clutch pedal from an earlier model,ieCortina 3/4 for MK5.

That rat-s**t must be one of Ford's best mistake's :winner:

Can you do that then and just bypass it with a different pedal? I hate it, stupid over complicated design, its not what old fords are supposed to be about.

Yeah, Fit one from a Mk3.

Same adjustment method as the Capri's.

Fit the long spring that runs down the back of the peddel LAST!!!!!!

assemble the top of the peddle with the long spring hanging free of the peddle hole with some STRONG string or wire round the bottom hook and poked through the hole in the peddle to pull it through AFTER it's all back on and fully asembled.

Do it that way or it'll be forever springing appart as you try to put in back on the box, the little red locating rings should come with the new kit along woth a new quadrant, pawl and pawl spring

Guys it driving me absolutely insane

Ive got the pedal off but the brake one came loose as i pulled the shaft out too far. I dont know what order the shims and washers and so on go or where the R clip locates as i cant remember. Anyone got an exploded view of the whole thing (thats better than the bloody haynes effort) in place on the shaft including all the washers and so on? Also, does the ratchet have to be in mesh with the top bit when you put it on the shaft? Its so friggin fiddly its doing my head in!

Yes it needs to be meshed  thats why you leave the long spring off cos it tensions the quadrant, i will get in the garage latere on see if i have a peddle box tp get a pic of, not sure of i still have one though?, after the clutch peddle is on there should be a spring washer, a flat washer then the R clip last but it will be hard to get it all on and squashed up enough to get the clip on as you have to slightly compress the sping (the twisted thin) washers.
