CorKtina 17 Posted September 24, 2007 no idea mate, wouldn't know where to look if there had been, far as i can see its all standard.must admit the cliff idea is appealing at the moment  not quite sure what to do now,i'll see when that new solenoid comes if that makes any difference...can't understand why theres no power to anything now though? well, all you will have done is to bypass the solenoid....if theres no ignition lights now, you may have a duff battery...you might have just used up its last dregs...(only an opinion, but tthats what I would suggest...try another battery? 74cortina 0 Posted September 24, 2007 battery looks quite new though, and its got one of those little window things on it to check on charge etc, seems ok from looking at it...i do have another battery, but its not fantastic, loses its charge after a couple weeks standing idle,i'll charge that up tomorrow and try it anyway, hopefully the new solenoid will be here in next day or 2 as well...i'll have to play about with the battery wires though as somebody has fitted a round post one and changed the fittings, had this before on a cortina, bloody annoying when folk change things like this, the correct type batterys with the holes through are not that hard to get hold of still
MrMacca 4 Posted September 24, 2007 (edited) And you've jiggled all the wires.. ? pushed them in tight. Any bad contacts? *clutches his wd40* It'll just be me and bumble at Crich then..... Edited September 24, 2007 by MrMacca

Darren Lewis 17 Posted September 24, 2007 sounds battery/solenoid, no reason for the lights not to work apart from the battery being .ged, fit the solenoid and a new battery, batteries are only £
CorKtina 17 Posted September 24, 2007 if the starter were jammed in mesh it wouldnt help either...try either tapping it with a hammer or putting it in gear and rocking it back and forth...might un jam if thats the porb.....sounds electraicla though dunnit.... 74cortina 0 Posted September 24, 2007 yes going to charge up my spare battery tomorrow and try that, didn't before as one on it shows it being charged ok  and fit the new solenoid when that arrives. if that doesn't work, then panic  cheapest batterys here are about £55 last time i had to get one, wish i could get 'em for £25... i'll try and get some overtime in work and save up,getting the brakes fixed last week has skinted me

74cortina 0 Posted September 24, 2007 yes it surely can't be anything other than battery, solenoid or starter,i mean theres virtually nothing else in there on these cars, they are so basic  unless the whole electrical or ignition system is fried somehow, don't know how you'd check for that though  anyway i'll see how i get on,getting really peed off missing shows week after week, last show of season on sunday so it had better bloody work!!

Gaz76 0 Posted September 25, 2007 Bad earth possibly? Just an idea - but my mk3 did something similar... Have you tried running a fresh earth wire from the negative battery terminal to a clean earth point (I actually used the exhaust manifold on my mk3 a temporary test)?
