andy lowe 0 Posted September 13, 2014 I'd heard the story a number of years ago at a show which was something like the guy had a Mk1 GT possibly from new and run it a few years then when the time came to change (possibly it had been crash damaged can't honestly remember) he bought this Mk2 GT brand new and insisted the dealer have it registered on this plate. Too long ago to remember specifics but the plate definitely belonged to a Mk1 first

andy lowe 0 Posted September 14, 2014 Other end of the scale, anyone ever seen a K regd Mark 2? I never have Not for a good few years now but do have this one photo from Billing in 2006. Again there was a story with it but details escape me- imported definitely- but where from I don't remember- certainly not Europe. South Africa rings a bell and was given a 72/73 plate possibly because it was a very late CKD build

goldsavage 0 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) Other end of the scale, anyone ever seen a K regd Mark 2? I never have I've seen K, L, M, N, P, R and V reg Mk2 Cortinas. The V reg, is a Savage which the owner drove straight from Jeff Uren's premises in Hanwell, to his home in Switzerland. He and the car, returned in 1980. The car had never been registered in the UK before, so it was given the V reg., as that was current at the time. Never seen a Q reg though.... I've also seen a Mk1 A reg, with the A at the beginning, then three numbers & three letters; 1983-style. Cheers, Ron. Tony Webster 28 Posted September 30, 2014 She's a beauty too  I've the funniest feeling this is a "Cherished" number ? Originally issued in 1964. :wine:
teletubby 7 Posted October 1, 2014 I've seen an R regd mark 2 once, a 1600E, left hand drive, a man who lived near me at the time in Radcliffe had it, on Dutch plates for a time then was reregistered as R was current at the time, would hVe been late 76 from memory. Was Q introduced later for old cars being registered for the first time? A few other oddities I remember from a few years ago were a Mark 3 Zephyr on L regd, a Victor 101 on R regd and a P regd Morris Minor traveller

First Reg. December 1979 and no Ford vintag so its made up from first owner and wifes Birthdays. Now on a 'period' number as Swansea would not let me have tax free Historic class
piledriver 0 Posted October 2, 2014 At one time imports were given a plate from the year they were imported, its likely a c reg mk2would have had a cherish plate, the mk1didnt go out of production till june66,then the line was altered to make the mk2for its launch later in the year,i would have thought that any mk2on a c reg would have carried an essex plate, and made from soft tooling as a pre production car
