The Sales Rep 3 Posted April 28, 2009 Hi has anyone come accross the Ford paint colour 'Unique Gold'? It's the colour of my 1980 MKII Escort Goldcrest. The Ford paint code is 8KO. Does anyone have any old paint code books or microfische they can look this up on? It doesn't appear on the colour charts at the time so I think it's exclusive to the Goldcrest. I got in contact with another Escort Goldcrest owner who gave me an XSC code for it but when I checked it came back as Venus Gold XSC1499B, I got some mixed but it was the wrong colour. There is another XSC code for Venus Gold XSC1499C what would be the difference? Is it British Built? German Built? I need to buy a small amount to touch up afew areas on the arch lips. If anyone can supply an XSC for Unique Gold or any info atall that would be great. I know I should try an Escort forum but they never seem to be as clued up or helpful as everyone here on bsc. Thankyou.

The Sales Rep 3 Posted May 1, 2009 Thanks to both of you for your help. The other Escort Goldcrest owner who gave me the paint code said the man had written Firecrest next to Unique Gold (I thought that he had made a mistake and was supposed to put Goldcrest) so your information sheffieldcortinacentre does help. richard 2509 if you could look on the computer at work for an XSC code that would be great. With the code 8K0 I know the 0 stands for 1980 (as thats the year the car was made). Thanks again.

HI i dont know if this any help but here goes, differant paint makers use differant names for some colours,so even thou it says unique gold it could be known as some thing else depending on the maker, sikkens used differant names as ici as we found out to our cost,so it might be known as something else, do you have the paint code on the vin plate as this will help, i do have ici ref codes which are for venus gold, 6982m for the single layer met and 0442b for the basecoat ve rsion, but ici colour book for 79, 80 81, doesnt list a unique gold, hope this helps Dave.PS i must say in finishing for the 28yrs i was at a ford dealer as painter i dont recall a unique gold, but i do remember venus gold, tibetain gold ,solar gold and oyster gold which i think were all on mk2s at some point. Yes I have the paint code on the VIN it's 8K0 also the colour plate states it's Unique and the owners certificate and the dealer information pack says the paint name is Unique Gold. Other Goldcrests I have come accross have the same. The Goldcrest was only available in Unique Gold or Sable Brown (which was available on other Fords at the time). I think Unique Gold was exclusive to the Goldcrest. It's had a wing at some point and the match is excellent so someone has mixed it once. Whats the differerence between single layer met and the basecoat version? richard 2509 thanks for taking the time to check on the computer for me. It was Halfords that I had Venus Gold (XSC 1499B) mixed but it didn't match. I've uploaded a picture of my Goldcrest incase anyone can identify the colour. (it's 100% standard and the gold sport steel wheels are correct they were part of the many extras the Goldcrest had).
richard 2509 0 Posted May 5, 2009 the basecoat version needs a clear coat lacquer on it...if someone has painted the wing on the car then they will have painted into the door to blend the colour so even if the paint is a shade off then you wouldnt notice it....possibly your last option would be to go to a bodyshop and ask them to either scan it or if they have the profi system (sprayouts of every conceivable shade of gold) to match it from that... [/quo Wright i have had all the paint books out and all the swatches and the conclusion i have come tois no concludion!,but i did get these from the ici book, champagne gold has a code of o but was only used 81 84 so it isnt that, walnut brown was code8 and used 81 84 so it isnt that chestnut brown has a code of 8 and was used 80 81 so it could be that,in reply to your question about the differance between metalic and basecoat, metalic was like a solid colour acrylic that needed no clearcoat and was used in the 80s but did have floatation in it and had quite a flat appearance, basecoat is pretty simple it was a clear over it, but some cellulose single layer metalics were laquered if there went in for repair as it was easier to get the colour right by fading in over the adjoing panels , so to sum up no closer iam affaid, Dave. ps just looked at the swatch for chestnut brown and that looks nothing like it . The Sales Rep 3 Posted May 6, 2009 Thanks cortinawoody for going to the trouble of getting all the books and swatches out. It looks like that colour was exclusive to the Goldcrest then, I know there were other MK II Escort special editions that used paint colours that were not available on other Fords at the time, the Huntsman and Capital both did and a special shade of blue was used on a batch of 1600 L & GL's. Another point to mention is that although the dealer pack/owners certificate and colour plate on the slam say Unique Gold the Goldcrest brochure refers to the Goldcrest being available in either Metallic Sable Brown or Gold, and a promotion letter I have says in Sable Brown or Gold Metallic (no mention of a paint colour). I've eliminated most of the golds from that era but not Venus Gold does anyone have a photo of a car in that colour (I have a Ford brochure and it looks very similar but obviously it's an old brochure so it's not the greatest of pictures to go by). If anyone has a photo of a Venus Gold car could they please post it. (as I say I had some Venus Gold mixed but i'm thinking the person who mixed it could have got the mix wrong). The only other thing I can think of is it's another Ford colour that was obselete at the time that was bought back and renamed does anyone think the colour looks similar to another Ford gold?
