a1topdog 4 Posted March 11, 2010 You normally have to get a letter from an owners club that the DVLA recognises for that make / model of car. The owners club will then verify what the year / model the car is , based on info you have to provide , things like chassis numbers and photo's etc. If the original reg has not been reissued you could get that back , but it will be on a non transferable basis. If the original reg has been re-issued you will get an age related plate. I don't think they will even process your request until the car is MOT'd though. First thing for you to do is ask the DVLA what club they advise you contact to verify your car.
the-ford-cortina.com 225 Posted March 11, 2010 First thing for you to do is ask the DVLA what club they advise you contact to verify your car. Would think mk2 owners club would do the trick

batty3636 3 Posted March 12, 2010 I have never had a problem with getting a v5 for any of my cars, some of them have been of the road for over 25 years, i even got a v5 from just the vin number on a mk2 lotus which had been of the road for 22 years. I would just apply for one with your reg number and vin and see what happens ?
Beowulf 87 Posted March 12, 2010 I don't think they will even process your request until the car is MOT'd though. Indeed, I have the same problem with my P100. It came with no plates and the previous owner did not know the reg as he bought it (for use on private land) without plates too. Went to the DVLA and it needs to be inspected first and they require it to have an MOT for them to do this. Unfortunately then the previous keeper on the logbook has title to the car as the DVLA will write to them and they could in theory claim it. Not very fair in my opinion. cortina mungo 0 Posted March 12, 2010 I have been involved with a couple of these over the years. Firstly get a form from the post office, car purchased with no log book. Then send this off to get yourself a log book. If there is a problem the DVLA will let you know. Then contact the MK2 Owners Club (as i am sure they are DVLA recognised) if neeed. There are no instant fixes, each case is always differant to the last. But if you do have a problem i am sure someone on here can help.
a1topdog 4 Posted March 13, 2010 As long as the car was put on the DVLA computer in 1973 when all the log books were computerised then you should just be able to fill in the necessary forms and get the log book. If there is no record of the car on the DVLA computer (ie its been off the road since before 1973) then you will have to do as I mentioned above. Can't see any harm sending for forms of anyway - you've got nothing to loose.

FredTransit 0 Posted March 15, 2010 Is there any registration number with it at all? Look for old tax discs, paperwork (even receipts for parts) or if it's been etched on the glass If you can get the reg, you can make a start to see if it's been re issued to another car. If it hasn't, you should be able to get it's original reg back, but it may not be transferred to another car (not that it will matter to you). You could pay about £20 to get the VIN number HPI'd, this will give you the reg number. Once you have a reg, you can just apply to the DVLA for a log book after paying the £25 fee. The V5 will show the first registration date, and that will make the car legible for historic free tax. Without a VIN number you are stuffed though.
