My Mk5 1.6 LS rolling Restoration

Recommended Posts

I've been offered and said yes to this... a 1982 1.6LS MK 5. Number plates altered until registration document signed off!

One owner car been stood since 1995. Not a basket case otherwise I couldn't take it on Plenty to do on it though. engine bay and most of steering components all hand painted and flaking. Owner had an accident with the welder when working on the car so it got abandoned. Chassis looks solid as does the boot.

Have managed to crank engine over but needs new points and some tlc to get spark to plugs. I believe the owner has all the bits for the car in his garage somewhere. Wish me luck!

Hoping to cut my teeth with some welding on this one, Martin. Exisitng Red oxide primer on the nearside looks kind of neat too! Rather like Big Mike's Frank the Tank. Can't wait to breathe life into this one!

As for selling the Huntsman ....no no no no no no no no noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I didnt think you would wait Paul !

The car is as the pictures and does have the 'unusual' L spec York fabric trim with vinyl trimmed Recaros as opposed to the Chelsea/Crushed Velour GLS Recaros.

Paul has done well yet again :headscratch:

I can also confirm (as being a previous FCOC MK5 Registrar) that the LS is a rare model, especially in 82 spec model.

The price of this car, when new would have been approaching a 2.0 Crusader price for 'technically' less although the story from Paul is that the original owner was given a generous discount on the car when new as he didn't want a Sierra! This certainly justifies why the late S Pack models in all trim levels are quite rare given the spec/price of the Crusaders and the Dealers incentive to push the run out models.

Paul's 1.6L car with the S Pack and Metallic Paint options would have been around the £5700 mark.

A 1.6 Single Tone Metallic Crusader would have been £5495,

A 2.0 Single Tone Metallic Crusader £5805

A 1.6 Two Tone Metallic Crusader was £5615

A 2.0 Two Tone Metallic Crusader was £5935

With the Crusader vs the S Pack models, you can see why 25000 Crusaders were sold from May 1982 to the end of sale compared to the lesser known 82 spec LS/GLS/Ghia S models.

Well there you go Paul, you've gone and done it again!! We might have to change your name to Tony Robinson if you keep unearthing these rareties.

Glad to see the overriders are in the correct place on this one

Pleased to see you have been tempted by something other than an estate, I was beginning to feel left out :headscratch:

Another to look after then... be a good few years before it ever gets anywhere near the condition of the estate (and that's still work in progress). Has a quick shift gear change on it too apparently. Think it has twin weber auto choke and a lovely looking exhaust manifold. The lamps under the front bumper are after market.
