MK2 Steve 1 Posted April 8, 2010 Hans, what can I say?? You have obviously gone to a lot of trouble to obtain these measurements for me and I'm very, very greateful for your help. ;) These piccys and measurements are perfect and I understand exactly what you mean about the stripe going closer to the swage line at the front of the car. Thank you very much indeed mate ........ you're a champ :icecream: Out of curiosity, is the stripe on your car original or did you have it fitted? Thanks again Regards, Steve
consul315 180 Posted April 8, 2010 you are welcome Steve and i hope you can use the pics for the paintshop. this particular car was taken off the road many years ago and was part of a car-collection from where i got it by accident. i haven t done any work to the car bodywiswe till now and i think that most of the paintwork is original, apart form the lh frontwing and lh front door. i m quite sure that the rear wing and doors in the pics are untouched. concerning the front wing it looks like the clear top coat (lacquer) could have been partially renewed, though i can t see any signs of a respray of the green base, as you see a slight difference of the shine just above the pin-stripe. in another location i have 3 other E´s that also have the pin-stripe, though the cars are stored too tight to do pics. as far as i know these stripes were factory fitted, as i remember these cars from the early seventies when most of them were untouched and also the merchandising material shows the stripe on the E. cheers Hans
G.O 19 Posted April 8, 2010 Out of curiosity, is the stripe on your car original or did you have it fitted? to the very best of my knowledge, the pin stripe was factory painted (not fitted) to all 1600Es, as was the black back panel on the series IIs. Only dealer painted part was the optional side (and rear) flash on the twincam/Lotus models. I also understand that the pin stripe was painted by hand. TinaInTheForest 1 Posted May 20, 2011 My dad had a new 1600E in 1970....RBO 590H, white with a red pinstripe. I knew the car very well as I learnt to drive and passed my test in it.....and had to get the front wing repaired after a little scrape. As GO says, the pinstripe was definately painted. I know as the painter had to get his mate in who could paint pinstripes, and it cost almost as much as repairing and painting the the bloomin wing! I wonder just how they did this in mass-production mode? Mark

Sean. 1 Posted December 14, 2012 I have to say those pics that chap put up with the measurements just don't look right, i'm sure it sits 3mm above the crease right the way along the car, it does'nt rise and fall at any point !
