V8IAN 0 Posted October 26, 2010 Before you really get into spending big money on this project, it must be said, the government are getting tougher on radical builds, putting the cars thru quite complex tests, with details that apply to modern car safety thrown in for good luck, I do know of people who had trouble getting a Mk1 mini thru the test with lots of stupid objections thrown in for good luck like gutters being a danger for pedestrians, bonnet trim being too sharp a radii windscreen wipers also a hazard etc, http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/Transport_Theme_files/124_IVA_M1_Inspection_Manual__Version_4_0510.pdf

As for spending big money - the whole project only stands me a about £200 at the moment after I sold all the spares that I didnt need... My original plan was to leave it looking as it is - the only thing I needed to buy was a set of suitable old syle wheels - open to suggestions!!!!!! However, the build is going better than I thought, and plan B is to make it mint... Im now looking for another subaru with better suspension and runnning gear as the equipment I have is a bit rusty.. Mexico steels would look the part.
RLH487W 0 Posted October 26, 2010 Mexico steels would look the part. I wanted to stick with the original cotina steel wheels but they wont go over the front disks and calipers - Im planning on fitting brembos- so even bibgger problem. I then thought about using Granada ghia wheels - would keep the car looking right - might get a few second looks when people notice 5 wheel nuts. However I dont think that 14" wheels will go over the subaru brakes also.. and I dont want to buy a set to find out they dont... Mexico steels would look mint - same problem with brakes though!! Got any other suggestions?? I would prefer the right PCD - but not to fussed as I can get machined. Im not to worried about PCD as I can get hubs mach
V8IAN 0 Posted October 26, 2010 Early minx wheels, 15" steels, similar to ford style and same PCD, get them banded to suit what tires you are using, really want to stretch the envelope, austin devon steels, come in 16" dia, or devon Commercial wheels are 17s, again get them banded Alloys, could go to the old fav Cosworth 3 door wires. Not sure on diameter though, hope they are bigger than 14" Thanks

Need to check out some of the UK hotrod sites, Some of the later Peugeot/citroen steels [space savers??] are the same stud pattern and can be banded too, another site to have a look on for wheel ideas is RetroRides
