RLH487W 0 Posted June 29, 2014 Blimey.....just read this in one go, I should have been working! Awesome is an overused word these days, but this build is awesome. Top job. Thanks a lot for that. I read through it all myself last week to remind my self what I went through as I'm just starting a new project - converting my mk2 escort 2wd cosworth to 4wd. Iv forgotten how much hard work it was and I think I'm mad starting again ...... Thanks
ChristinaGXL 23 Posted June 29, 2014 I read through the whole thread yesterday while the boring as hell football was taking over the TV, love it! If you do anything nearly as good with the Mk2 it'll be seriously impressive! Love the colour of the tina and jealous of your bronze glass!

I learned a lot building my cortina. I started the build on turbo sport if anyone's interested Thanks
conairmike 7 Posted June 29, 2014 Dude said it before but i'll say it again this is awesome. Not sure if this is of any help but my mate had a similar problem with his Orion, that runs an RS2K I4 lump give it welly and it would hesitate at around the same revs chased that for ages, in the end it was the lambdas, one was shot, not sure if it helps but just thought i'd mention it as it sounded a similar problem. RLH487W 0 Posted June 30, 2014 Just what I needed - something simple I'd never thought of pointing out to me - I'll give it a go tomorrow night.... Thanks Well tonight it all started well I removed the lambda from the cortina and instantly I knew there was a fault with it as the inside had broken down and rattled away with lots of small parts of metal inside. I'm so lucky the outer casing did not fail as it would have been pulled straight into the turbo..... I then removed the lambda from the Subaru and this one was solid with no rattles. I was convinced this was it sorted .. Fitted then test drive and all was well - them after several mile same old fault....... I tried the fault code light which showed Idle air control valve and knock sensor faults I swapped the idle air control valve 1st thinking the knock sensor is only showing due to the miss fire. Still no better I then changed the knock sensor which still didnot rectfie. I then checked the fault codes and the same 2faults are listed. Very confusing as the car I'm removing all the parts from has no faults and runs well . Iv left the battery leads connected to clear the ecu memory and will try it again tomorrow I'm running out of ideas now !!!!!!!!!!!!!
sheffieldcortinacentre 726 Posted June 30, 2014 ain't this stuff great. recently had 2 puntos both with misfires, code reader says 4 codes found, but when you try to read them it says no codes avl????
pwl1963 1 Posted July 1, 2014 Looking at the codes generated and the damaged O2 sensor you could possibly looking at an air leak fault on inlet manifold side.Knock sensor would be generated because of lean mixture idle control because it is over compensating and damaged O2 due to mixture exiting engine .Just my opinion hope it helps. I welcome any advice - I have previously checked pipes and valves for leaks but will look further in to it - the ere are no no noises and the boost is steady and good. The bit I can't get my head around is it runs perfect at idle. Normal driving and heavy driving upto 4k and then after 4.5k revs .

pwl1963 1 Posted July 1, 2014 If already checked and boost stays steady maybe an injector is sticking or not opening all of the time and under fuelling .Point of interest is this the hitachi/Subaru injection system. If so check all the earths very carefully(previous experience).Obdviousley the best way to simulate fault and have diagnostic equipment available is a rolling road session but not cheap. If they have been misfiring for a while it can toast the earth circuit in the ecu on Punto's Edited July 1, 2014 by bigjohn

conairmike 7 Posted July 2, 2014 Hi Dude You tried running it without the lambda's? this is how we tested my mates car as we didn't have a spare at the time, unplugged them and took it out, i know you said you swapped one over but thought i'd mention this as this is what we did, just incase the lambda you swapped in is'nt working right or it's a plug wiring issue, i'm not trying to be undermining or anything and far from an expert so please don't think i'm taking the pee or anything, just throwing this out there to try and help, hope you get to the bottom of it soon.
