Here she is. Looks much worse than I thought.

Is there any good news at all?

You sir are a brave man indeed ! How long have you had it ? A 2000E estate must be a pretty rare thing now. I'll watch this thread with interest.

I think rather clueless than brave :)Had it since 1999ish. I plan to do just the simple bits and then hand any welding & bodywork over.

I really need to know all the bits that a novice can do. What can I do to prep it for the guy who's doing the tough stuff?

The wings/front fenders? (the bits either side of the bonnet) they appear to be bolt on. I think I can handle that if someone points me to some repro parts.

Thats right mate, the front wings do unbolt. You are in a similar position to me in that I have a mk3 that needs the front wings replacing. Smith and Deakin supply fibre glss wings for £90 per side plus carriage, and from what I have found so far in my search for wings, you can expect to pay a similar amount for a second hand steel wing that needs work. As for new pattern wings, they will fetch approx £250+ (a pair) and for new, genuine Ford wings anything between £400-£500 for a pair. A friend is helping me out with some steel wings so I may have a pair of good used fibre glass ones if you are interested. The good thing about your car is that the doors are bolted on too. I am looking at each door, one at a time and if they are too far gone, sourcing a good replacement and doing all the preparation work off the car so that I can still use it and then swop over each door as it is completed. I'm doing it this way so that I can still use the car. I would assume that your car isn't quite roadworthy yet, so you could remove the doors and work on them at your leisure.

Going over to give Tina some love tomorrow while I wait for a few parts ( cheers slammed  )and need a few points of advice:

Got a new battery and am going to try and turn the engine over. Any bits of prep I should do first? (apart from clear the mice from under the drivers seat  )

The hand brake is stuck on. Any tips on getting that loose?

Cheers,

Jim

congrats, you have a very rare car and nice radio fitted as well, will watch the thread with interest too:

i´m not sure if it´s a good idea to start the engine without doing any service to it. in case you want to do it anyway, i would take out the spark plugs and let it turn round a few times, so the oil can spin around a bit though i fear it won t come up to the camshaft :headscratch: . i wouldn t rev it very high before you had at least oil and cambelt changed.

concerning the handbrake i would take off the wheels and hit the drums with a big hammer. in case the cable is seized (which is likely) i would probably cut it as close as possible to the brake plate, or if you want to use the cable again remove it and bath it in waste oil a couple of days.

good luck, you are a brave man!

Normally a few genuine Ford on ebay, but Gates cambelts aren't bad either. If you are in need of some wings, I have some used fibreglass ones if you are interested. They ain't fantastic, but they ain't bad.

i resist striping things down until you get the car checked over by the person who's guna do the welding as they will want to check alignment ,shape etc also this can leave the car looking a mess & you feeling overwhelmed.

the welding required just looking at the photo's will be extensive & not cheap so take your time & get several quotes for price & time scale, work out a payment plan in writeing but don't be surpriesd if this raises as more work/rot is found, never pay up front & make regular visits to check on quality & progress of work & discuss the forthcomeing work.

i know a source, but bringing cambelts from my country to UK would be like "bringing owls to athens" :clown: .

as Dave already said, "Gates" are god quality and readily available, but make sure you change the "tension roller" as well (SKF-part-nr. VKM259 if i remember correct :headscratch: ).

Yup. This project didn't look tricky enough so I decided to give it 3 years to 'mature'. I'm back on it now. God help me :/
