MK5 V8 1 Posted August 28, 2013 Yeah, the liners are actually transit liners as he couldn't find any top hat rover ones so it was a case of making the liners fit the block. well i've been running it around for the last couple of days to run it in and it's going really well, the engine is sweet but i have a couple of electrical gremlins to sort out, the main beam keeps flickering on and off and the gauges don't work properly, i'm hoping just bad connections or earth problems, but i'll sort it eventually

bigjohn 2 Posted September 3, 2013 How much are you hoping for?
MK5 V8 1 Posted September 3, 2013 Oh well let down again, the dyno guy called in sick on monday so will have to wait, hopefully sometime this week. i'm hoping for over 225bhp which is what i was told it had the last time it was on a dyno, i've made some improvements with the air intake, carb and inlet manifold and exhaust, so about 240 would be nice
Markthree 5 Posted September 10, 2013 Oh well let down again, the dyno guy called in sick on monday so will have to wait, hopefully sometime this week. i'm hoping for over 225bhp which is what i was told it had the last time it was on a dyno, i've made some improvements with the air intake, carb and inlet manifold and exhaust, so about 240 would be nice My MK3 is currently in the process of being rebuilt. I have intended from day one to go V8 and indeed I bought one all rebuilt very soon after I got the car. It's. a Sd1 3.5 now with 5 speed. ( It was auto) I must admit I have had my moments when I think how much easier the rebuild would be if I refitted the pinto as its actually in VGC But I suspect you understand why I always revert to my original V8 plan. As you have found though its rarely plain sailing when deviating from the established path but you have seen it through despite a few gremlins and got a car to be proud of. It's threads like this that help inspire guys like me who are many months behind you. Great thread, cool car.
MK5 V8 1 Posted September 14, 2013 (edited) Thanks, it has been an uphill struggle at times i have to say but when it's finally complete and you're driving it down the road and you think....yeah.. i built this and it's great, all those problems you had and the hassles become forgotten... well almost....still waiting to get it on the dyno, i might get to do some miles this year before the tax runs out  but you go for the V8 if thats what you really want, i know fitting a pinto will be easier but there's no challenge to that....and then theres the sound............... MK5 V8 1 Posted October 1, 2013 Well today i finally got it on the dyno and am happy with the results, 205 bhp at the wheels which equates to about 245 at the crank at 5500rpm and 210flbs of torque, it goes like a rocket now and nice and smooth too but now i can at least enjoy some driving while the weather holds out at least :car:

MK5 V8 1 Posted October 2, 2013 (edited) glad the day has come.so what's next? well just a few tiding up jobs to do, a couple of paintwork jobs, i also have a nice set of blue silicone hoses to fit, i need to get some new tyres as the ones on the car are well old, the temp and fuel gauges are still not working properly and i need to modify the fuel fillers as it takes me ages to get any fuel in the tanks at the pump, the gun keeps clicking off, but other than that have some fun i suppose  paul a race at the pod next year then :D Edited October 2, 2013 by MK5 V8
