Admittedly the "Bent" will at best stay level (likely depreciate) mine is a 95 on an "M" plate with 48k on the clock. Love it to bits though its excursions are limited to opening the door smelling the leather interior, opening the bonnet and gaping at the "Queen Marys'" engine room, with a turbo, bigger than the average vacuum cleaner. Every petrol head should own one, once, before the great gathering in the sky beckons ... :wine: Edited July 26, 2011 by Tony Webster
creddersmk2 2 Posted July 26, 2011 prices of some stuff has gone mad, when i was younger it was escorts for me mk1 n 2 mexicos, rs2000s. in the early 90s i had a tatty mk1 rs2000 white blue decals, fancied a go at grasstracking i know ill use that rs thats a good idea! kept buyin 2dr escorts for £50 to cut a quarter off or a wing n scrap the rest. then the prices went mad so i got into anglias n cortinas, will never be able to afford a nice escort.even when i bought my GT it was more money than i ever thought id give for a 4dr cortina, i was also watching an avenger tiger in wardance red, rare car not much more than the GT and a rival for a mexico, i was also looking at firenzas n HBvivas you can get a lot of car for cortina money now. I'd love an Avenger Tiger. After Cortinas, I'd go for an Avenger or a Sunbeam Rapier above anything else (realistically).
creddersmk2 2 Posted July 26, 2011 i think its the price of escorts thats pushing up the prices of cortinas, escorts getting too pricey people look for alternatives n the prices of them rise with demand

TinaInTheForest 1 Posted July 27, 2011 I agree that a lot of fun goes out of cars when the prices get daft, and I’ve spoken with quite a few Mk 1 Lotus Cortina owners over the past couple of years who are now in a quandary. They love their cars, and have often spent 1000s of hours getting them into a fantastic condition, but now are a bit scarred of driving them or parking them anywhere with other cars in case of damage! Quite a few are thinking of selling and buying something for much less money and putting the fun back into running an old car. I love the ‘hot’ saloon cars of the 60s and 70s. The Lotus Cortina, Cooper S, Avenger Tiger, Viva GT and Brabham, Fienza Droop Snoot, AVO Escort, Capri 3000 and Dolomite Sprint all do it for me! I just bought a Dolly Sprint for a bit of fun and to see what it feels like…it’s been 30 years since I last had one when I lived in Australia. And it’s superb! But the best thing about the car, apart from the £2k purchase price, is the price of spares. In the last two weeks I have picked up from eBay an engine with all ancillaries, 46k miles from new (£200), a mint and complete interior (£40), a dash with all instruments ( £20), an overdrive gearbox (£50) and a set of original alloy wheels with good tyres for £60 !! The car was Ziebarted (old fashioned Waxoil) from new so is rust free…she should go on for ever! There are some great cars around that still seem to be unappreciated. I’m also a big fan of the old Jag XJS, and have had a few. I’ve been trying to sell this one for a few months, and had enquiries from Australia, France, Holland and Germany…and in the end, sold it to a guy in Hungary. Nobody in the UK seemed to want it. It’s a very rare (220 made) TWR JaguarSport XJR-s 6 litre V12 built to celebrate the Jag wins in the 1989 LeMans, Probably only about 50 are left in the world. The last owner spent £28k on the car just sorting everything out, and it was very original and up together. The downside was that I had stored it for 7 years, and it needed re-commissioning…or so I thought. The guy buying it came over with his trade plates, bolted them on, filled up with petrol and set off for Budapest! He phoned me the next day to say that he was on the autobahn just outside Munich, and that the car was running beautifully and the air con blowing very cold. How much did I get for this incredibly rare car? £2750 !!! Parts for them are virtually free, the V12 engine is bullet proof, they do 25mpg on a run, 0 – 60 mph in 6.5 seconds and from 50 to 120 mph will see off a Lamborghini Countach. And all for the price of a Lotus Cortina engine! Mark
consul315 180 Posted July 27, 2011 (edited) I just bought a Dolly Sprint for a bit of fun and to see what it feels like…it’s been 30 years since I last had one when I lived in Australia. And it’s superb! i always wanted one of these and nearly bought -a rough -one in the eighties. they were a rare sight over here and prices of parts were the opposite way over here (well the times before internet). i remember the one i was interested would have needed a propshaft which was more than ATS 7.500,00 :shocking: at that time (about 470 gbp at current ex-rate). still fancy one, but you (i) can t have all i´m afraid!
