the-ford-cortina.com 226 Posted September 5, 2011 if you were to take all the usefull parts of a mk3 cortina that someone could use one day !. :juggle: This is what you would be left with!! and you ant gone race this :car: I wouldn't stop there Tibs. I had a bulkhead and skuttle cut out of a scrapper to fix my estate. Sections of roof and the rear quarters could also be used. In fact any bit of the shell that's good can be cut out. There was a guy in MTOC who broke a Mk3 facelift and by the time the club was finished there really wasn't anything left. He was cutting body sections out with an angle grinder. I have the slam panel. That said, if we want to save these cars, we have to be prepared to buy them and pay more than the banger racers. Like THIS you mean? WE CUT IT OUT FOR SOMEONE AND THEY NEVER CAME BACK FOR IT.
CortinaTrap 0 Posted September 5, 2011 yeah we dont see many mk3s now-last one was a 2000e estate couple months ago that even i felt a bit bad about racing cos it didnt need much lol. that crusader and 2.0s was raced about 5 years ago when i joined up here. havent had many S ones since but we got a midnight blue V6s in the yard right now thats been stored since 1989 and not sure if we shud race it or ebay it cos its solid altho the doors are rusty. be honest most of the trim and . that gets stripped out of em goes on the bonfire cos i cant be assed to sell it but i know i'm missing out on a few quid lol.anyway like i say let us know if you got anything- no offence meant but i need to find at least another ten of the bloody things lol
eddnew 4 Posted September 5, 2011 That said, if we want to save these cars, we have to be prepared to buy them and pay more than the banger racers. Shouldn't be too difficult. I'm sure these Guys don't want to pay a lot for something that they want 5 minutes enjoyment out of? Do you Tom? :headscratch:
cortina crazy 0 Posted September 5, 2011 The way i thought it was was that most banger racers will pay top money for a cortina because they get more races from them. No matter how much anyone complains (and i dont like it) we cant save them all and if there the only ones prepared to pay the askng price for mk5's that have been left standing to rot, then there the ones who are going to make the decision what gets raced. If we all had endless room and money then this conversation would have a purpose. I'd love to be able to save them all, but no one wnts to pay what a mint restored cortina would sell for and no one has the time space or money. So a few get raced. If you dont like it, buy them before the banger racers and save them yourselves :winner:

If you want I am sure that if when you find a cortina to race ( you will get mk5s in your price range ) if you let us know someone from near you off here will come and strip bits off for you! V6Ghia 38 Posted September 5, 2011 I think this has been put on by some nasty minded person trying to get a reaction, why else would they put 2.0S being banger raced knowing it would cause a reaction, posts like this should be deleted in my opinion. Danish 294 Posted September 5, 2011 Like THIS you mean? WE CUT IT OUT FOR SOMEONE AND THEY NEVER CAME BACK FOR IT. Mine had the bulkhead too. Once it arrived it was so big I panicked and sold it to one of my mk3 chums.

I never read that bit, the reason most cortina folk leave banger racers to quietly get on with it is cos most bits that come off get passed on to save others. Due to the rarity of the Mark 4 "S" model I would ask you to offer these cars to members on here first and then if there is no interest.... I've been looking for the best Tan interior trim for my Mark 4 GL for the best part of 20 years and so far have collected enough for 2 interiors but still on the lookout for better items. Clearly if everyone threw out what could be re-used and not offer them to other like minded people first then we run the risk our hobby that is keeping and returning Cortinas to the road grinding to a halt. Have you got any pictures that you can post of the 2.0S and 2.3S before anything is done to them?

mad mik 0 Posted September 6, 2011 Last time I went to Hednesford Hills I really enjoyed watching the Banger Racing and I felt no pain as there was not a Granada or Cortina in site just MK3 cavaliers and Mondeos. I understand them wanting older cars as the steel is thicker and they last longer but it pains me to watch them use old cars as they really are only getting less. the only one I have seen that was truely fit for banger racing was a Daimler V8 250 as its first collision the majority of the back dropped off due to the amount of rot. would somebody swap a rough cortina to preserve the "S " he currently has before he races it ???? Everyone has their own opinion and thats mine.
