clutch with a mind of its own

on my mk2 crossflow.. when i go for a heavy drive to 'blow the cobwebs out' ;) my clutch disapears and has a very short travel right near the floor. is this just a case of the slave cylinder getting abit warm? as its verry close to the manifold. i dont really mind, just wonderd if this was a common problem or something i should sort out :P cheers. Have you changed the fluid? Or bled the slave cylinder?

yess changed the old plastic pipe for full copper about 6 months ago so bled it through then was fine for about 3 months but it seems to change every time i drive it but not loosing fluid anywhere.

Clutch slave gone down mate. Very common on mk2's and getting harder to source.

 

If you get someone to press clutch pedal down while you look at the actuating rod on bell housing, you will see it won't move very much. Sometimes takes a few pumps of the pedal to change gear??

Try either bleeding it or better still whip it off and change the seal then bleed it , not a difficult job also watch out for the rod punching it's way through the fork , you can get around this by using a really small socket on the rod until you drop the gearbox off to change the selector fork.
