V6Ghia 37 Posted May 15, 2013 Excellent work, very impressive. Where did you get the mk4 front valance from?
mk4savage 57 Posted May 15, 2013 looking good so far.should imagine it'll be better than when it was built as this rate. Cheers, That's what I'm hoping for. Long way to go yet but it's a good start. Excellent work, very impressive. Where did you get the mk4 front valance from? Cheers mate. The Valance I got off ebay a couple of years ago, it was a bit rusty as it had been stored in a garage for 30 years so the seller said. It's not a genuine panel though, it's a Hadrians one but at least it's a proper MK4 valance.

mk4savage 57 Posted May 20, 2013 (edited) This was Thursday's work, New valance welded in place, It took a bit of messing about to get it to fit but he's done it. Then Friday was spent fitting the centre section which was a nightmare. Steve the welder said it took some stretching to get it to fit as it's a non genuine panel. This was a nice touch. Steve cut the mounting brackets down on the centre section for the grill clips, Genuine Mk4 panels have just the one slot whereas the pattern panel I have has two slots on each side, Possibly for Mk5's I'm not quite sure. As soon as I told him about that he said he would alter it to replicate a Genuine panel. He cut the top section off and reshaped the top edge, The joint where the upper and lower section meet. All spot welded so nice and neat, Friday night and Saturday was spent Trial fitting the wings which didn't fit very well onto the new valance, The edges of the new panel had to be flattened and the tabs on the wings had to modified slightly to the correct shape. The bumper and grill was fitted and I also drilled the new panel for the spotlight brackets which took ages as I didn't want to drill in the wrong place After the trial fit of everything we ended up with this on Saturday night at about 9pm. It took ages to get the wings right but the gaps are good now and they both meet the bottom of the valance unlike before where the wing seemed to be slightly higher up the valance on the drivers side. I've seen a few like that Some things just don't make sense sometimes. Overall, It's not too bad. The welding is Fantastic as everything is Spot welded so looks very neat. The headlights took some adjusting as those little Tabs that they sit on aren't very good at all on these pattern panels. The gaps seem good and the bumper fits nice and follows the panel nicely. It's stripped down again now and the Painter has been working on it today, It might be ready to start putting back together tomorrow hopefully! mk4savage 57 Posted March 3, 2015 (edited) I realised I hadn't updated this thread after the new front panel was fitted. Well it was only 2 years ago  These two were Symonds Yat 2013. I've also added period style number plates (These were the type fitted to it when I got it and were from new I think) from Tippers in St Austell. Weird as St Austell is where I bought the car from. I also found these two old photo's while sorting through some of my old issues of Classic Ford. Don't know why they were in a Classic Ford magazine though, I'd been looking for these but had given up. The first one is the day after I bought the car, 23rd September 1998, pictured outside the Caravan we were staying in at Burnham on Sea. I wish I could go back to that day, I would do things a bit differently ! This next one is a few weeks after that if I remember correctly. I just thought I would share those old photo's with you. mk4savage 57 Posted March 3, 2015 (edited) Thanks Ste  I thought of you the other day actually. I was looking through some old issues of the Cortina 1 to 5 club magazines i've got, the A4 versions and your car was in there. Not a great picture being in black and white but I recognised it right away. Edited March 3, 2015 by mk4savage
