I tend to find aftermarket exhausts last about 5 years before they start rotting away at the joints then fall apart. The one on my daily modern-ish car fell apart after 6 years which isn't bad going really. Replaced it now with a Stainless non cat straight through pipe with twin tail pipes. I thought so too. I felt bad as he advertised it for 30 and I offered him 20 which he agreed but when I collected it I gave him 25. I always find people knock me down in price when I'm selling so I thought I would lol. Not sure how well it'll fit but I'll give it a go. I've not started it up since last June to be honest so I'll see what the exhaust I had off you is sounding like. No point in changing it if it's still half decent. That's the trouble with non genuine stuff, doesn't last well at all. My work van had it's original starter motor on it for 7 years, had a replacement last year and it needs another one now 12 months after fitting. It is stopped and started 40 to 50 times a day though 😂

Thanks for the comment 👍 I appreciate that. It is a bit of a story and you're right I am lucky to have kept hold of it for so long. To be honest I can't see me ever parting with it as I've had it so long.

It wouldn't have covered that many miles without rotting away first I reckon Edited May 27, 2024 by mk4savage
mk4savage 57 Posted April 20 (edited) Been to a local show today, probably about 20 miles each way (Weston Park, Shropshire). Went well which was good as I've not touched it since June last year. Edited April 21 by mk4savage
mk4savage 57 Posted April 20 Trying to upload a couple of photos but not having much luck from a mobile device. Car went ok but I'm finding the auto gearbox is snatching when changing down from 2nd to 1st. I spoke a while back about changing the oil in it but I haven't done so yet. Anybody had a similar experience and found new oil solved it ? Gearbox history is unknown as I got it from a scrap yard in around 2005. It's a later box from around 85 from a Granada. mk4savage 57 Posted April 20 (edited) Apologies for the mess and obstructions on the back seat. I always keep a cover on the rear seat and usually have the dog carrier on the seat for our little terrier. Must keep the cloth as safe as possible I always drive with covers on the front seats too. Pete-H 67 Posted April 20 What a great looking Mk4 If you change the auto fluid and filters for new that should sort the snatching problem. Pete

Pete Thank you for that Pete. I will get that done. I put a new filter in there back in 2006 and new fluid. I wouldn't say I'd done that many miles, probably about 7,000 in that time but at least it isn't the original filter and fluid. Edit: On 1/7/06 mileage was 56,958 and as of today is showing 62,977. Total of 6,019 miles in almost 19 years. The fluid probably isn't the quality that Ford would have used as it was bought from a Motor Factors. I remember the original gearbox from the car had started to do this "Snatching" a year or so after I'd bought it and started covering some miles in it. I did quite some mileage in it when I first got it in 1998. Oh how I wish I'd still got the original gearbox for it I do have another auto box for it from an early 2.3 MK5. It was working with no faults. Only reason it was removed from the car was the owner converted it to manual with a type 9. Also got one of those in the shed...best place for it.
