clutch noise

Recommended Posts

Hello

Changed my clutch about a month ago complete with release bearing but now there is a shrill noise sometimes like a firework going off when i fully depress the pedal, could it be a faulty bearing or any other ideas before i start all over again.

Hello, I think it's more likely to be the little spigot bearing in the end of the crankshaft.

Peter.

Hello Peter

Is the spigot bearing hard to change.

alan

No not hard, just changed mine on my pre crossflow, (think they're pretty much the same)

Engine will need to be out of the car though

Just take the clutch cover off, clutch plate, and take the flywheel off too.

Then fill the bearing completely with grease and find something that fits very snugly inside and what it to create pressure, just pops out.

You'll need a new locktab for the flywheel I think.

And then to align the clutch.

But no very easy on pre crossflow and I don't imagine crossflow will be any different

There are 2 sizes of spigot bearing as well depends what gearbox you got.

Turns out that end of crank was machined for larger brass bush with larger centre hole so shaft did not fit, Thanks to Steve Taylor who dropped all his other work to machine new brass bush to fit larger hole in end of crank with hole in centre of bush to receive standard type pilot bearing, all works as it should now.
