cortina-city 140 Posted January 29, 2014 never throw away your orginal lucas lenses as you can remove the glass with a needle sander/belt sander thingy, then but new lamps, cut the glass off and refit the lcas lens to new bowls, then if you want remove the rear bulb and cover mount plate, cut the centre out and glue onto the new bowl back so that you wont even be able to tell its been modified. you must keep the bulb mount that comes with the new lamps as the position of the halogen lamp has to match the focal point of the lens, its pretty straightforward, wear gloves and goggles when breakign off the new glass off the new lamps, i used an angle grinder and 1mm cutting disc then carefull unpicked the perimeter seal, i used high temp white silicon sealant to bed the old lucas lenses onto the new bowls and again silicone to attach the old skool mount plate to rear so that you can fit the lucas black plastic lamp cover. if you dont have the halogen lenses or if the HALOGEN logo is damaged you can get stickers or letraset, MArk (markthree) has made some excellent stickers to use

Markthree 5 Posted January 29, 2014 dash wiring completed. immobilser circuits all in, oil pressure switch wired, radio working, electric aerial fitted into loom etc, re-wrapped and cable tied into place So that's how you split the units  Good work Pete you keep raising the standard :)
cortina-city 140 Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) So that's how you split the units  Good work Pete you keep raising the standard :) Mark thanks, and i trialed the stickers on full beam, they work fine, ill be putting them on the green car, im very lucky to have 3 orginal painted halogen units i didnt know i had, so i may as well but one more lamp now, whilst stickers are a great way to do this, i would have one sticker and 3 painted, and you know me, ill be there running my fingers over the bowls 'feeling' the surfaces, oh christ save me from this OCD. I just watched some of the new sherlock holmes films and his ocd brain reminds me of cortina restorers.........lol Mark to remove orginal glass just file the rim with the belt sander and they fall apart. i noticed that even 'good' looking headlamp reflector bowls are tired. the silver dulls. so no other way other than to fit brand new reflocror bowls. i got a set on ebay for 60 quid. same as on my green car and i know thay are bright. i think a few people on here have used them stock. i hope the retro fit bowls dont affect the optics, they shouldnt as ive kept the orginal bulb mounts supplied with new units so focal point remains same. just tried the one i did this eve and hell it is BRIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wolfrace 109 Posted January 29, 2014 I'd say the lights should be even better still when 4 are on main beam as you did all that work with the loom and the relay too. Very nice work with the lenses, remember Tony doing similar and thought it looked a really good idea. Unfortunately the two lamps I removed (with the domed glass) are sealed beams so no chance of fitting the lenses.

the-ford-cortina.com 225 Posted January 30, 2014 Cheers Mark, I have to add that I originally did the design for Pete's t-shirt and dont normally agree to reproduction of my work unless some arrangement is made previously, not that I expected to make any money from this job as it's for a mate and I had a dry spell at work currently & some free time to spend doing it. I think it should be a range of tshirts , mugs , mouse mats, etc. Cant wait for a Mk2 version

It was about 4 solid days in the end on Pete's job but he's a star and is helping me out with some stuff which I'd only have to sort myself so I'm chuffed. Anyone can enquire if they want something and have the readies to pay plus if they have some bits I need etc I can always do a deal with the odd a back hander to BSC also, so everyone benefits. I do have an idea for a range of save all cortina t-shirts from MK1 to MK5, I did some sketches a while back.. phuked cars go in, sparkly ones come out.. SAVE EM ALLLLLL!!!
