Thank you.

This is a good forum,

There's always something going on and i know that help and advice are always on hand.

I think my dad would have been grinning from ear to ear if he could see the car now it's painted.

I just need to get through this low period

and then get myself back in the garage.

hello folks.

i managed a little garage time today

i recently bought a buffing wheel and some polishing compound for cleaning/polishing the door bling.

there are different cleaning compounds for different metals and for stainless steel there seems to be 3 different compounds.

black......course

green......medium

white......fine

i used the course and medium and then some liquid metal polish to finish.

i know that you can't tell from the picture but they came up really well.

this was before i finished of with the liquid metal polish.

then it occurred to me that i didn't know which piece went where. :headscratch:

but it didn't take too much working out in the end (thankfully)

i used some waxoil to lubricate the trims to help them click into place.

i haven't fitted the window sills yet as i still have the windows to fit. also the rear off side window sill trim isn't in very good condition so i am on the look out for a replacement.

i have also cleaned the door glass only to find many small scratches :shocking:

i may have to try and polish some of them out as replacements would probably be just as scratched.

it's good to be making some progress again :showoff:

thanks for looking,

graham.

That colour is beautiful and suits a MK3 perfectly. I can't wait to see the finished photos.

That's a lovely shade of green.

Thanks for the tip about polishing the door trims - I have that job yet to come.

Thank you for the positive comments.

To be honest i didn't really like the colour when i first bought the car.

But it's grown on me since then. :)

When i looked on the internet for polishing compounds there were different grades for different metals.

For stainless steel like the cortina door bling it was black/green/white.

In the kit that i bought from Machine Mart there are 2 buffing wheels, a mandrel and a block of green polishing compound.

I think that i paid £14 but don't quote me.

Graham
