Recommended Posts

my mk3 has a sun roof that i don't like so whats the options.

1, live with it. boo

2, weld it up with a pice of donor roof of the correct profile. :headscratch:

3, re skin the roof with a donor roof. most learnid folk that i have spoken to say don't do it.

it's a real risk.

what do you think. :juggle:

do i assume its a horrible glass sunroof....if so....install a proper webasto sliding/folding roof which is more in keeping and were fitted as dealer options in the 60's 70's and 80's.

i think you'd struggle to maintain the shape....lots of distortion with the heat of the welder.

i've looked as pete's mk3 sardine tin and i know that i would never do that. i've seen a sun roof welded up on one of those american tv progs but not sure that i could do it. that only leaves 2 options.

so is the britax sun roof not as wide as a glass sun roof and did you fit your own britax or was it fitted for you. i'm asking this as i've heard that the britax is quite hard to fit and can be prone to leaks. i made a few enquiries today after fred and pabs suggestion and the advice was to have it pro fitted. how much that would be i don't know. :headscratch:

The dimensions of the britax sunroof i have are about 31 inches wide, the glass one was about 30 inches, so i had some filler pieces put in,i cut the hole out, and the car was then taken to bristol sunroofs who fitted my vinyl roof ,also fitted the britax and my new head linning.
