John Mack 342 Posted August 18, 2016 To celebrate an MOT on Friday and the standard front springs now refitted to the front, I went out for a wee jolly! Happy the front is sitting better, got GAZ shocks on the front but have them set at position 2, so pretty forgiving!....might turn them up a click or two, or might just enjoy the ride for now! I'll need to get the tracking checked/adjusted soon.

Comp 0 Posted August 18, 2016 I bought my Mk5 at the turn of the year, then sold my Escort Mk2 rolling shell.........and not regretting it one little bit  The interior was pretty grubby when I got it as it had been getting stored in a workshop, I don't think anybody cared too much about how dirty their overalls were whenever they jumped in to move it. It cleaned up well though. Bodywork wise, the rear panel below the bumper had been stonechipped black. Looked pretty bad so painted this myself with cans, looks ok for just now. The quarter panels are a slightly different shade but again I can live with it. Engine.....now looking a bit smarter although the 4-branch rubs the steering column when you give it the beans :( Didn't have the spot-lights on it when I bought it but I think it looks better for them. Got a set of fog-lights to fit as well, and a boot spoiler B) It's got a 5-speed fitted but 5th gear has a wee bit of a whine, am I right in saying a lot do this because of poor lubrication?? And the gear stick is like a wand in bucket of sand.....might get a 4-speed back in at some point, maybe. Just got an electric ignition kit of e-bay so going to fit that next. Hope you like the piccy's. John. That looks like one proper car, well done too you.

I have another couple of cars but she's never as eager to jump into either of them, open a back door on the Cortina and she's straight in! Clever dog!
Shadow 20 Posted August 20, 2016 John Nice car. So have you fitted the correct front and left -1 on the rear. I have -1 all round and such a harsh ride I was thinking of fitting the normal ride height to the front. Thought it may upset it tho but looks very good. Regards Ron

Regards Ron Correct Ron -1 on the rear and standard on front(they were on the car when I bought it, I'm assuming they're standard). I have Spax shockers on the rear, GAZ on the front........I'll be playing with the adjusters front and rear.
Duke Blues 15 Posted August 20, 2016 On my car getting the tracking done was easy but getting the castor set wasn't so easy. I ended up going to a place that repairs accident damaged cars. They had the equipment to set the castor.
Steve Walton 130 Posted August 21, 2016 Hi John, Must say your car is looking good. I have standard height front springs and Gaz shocks on mine. At the moment I have the shocks on the 3rd click and is not to bad a ride might go a little tighter with them. I did set them at half way i.e 50% at first but they were way to stiff. Steve Steve, Got mine set at 2 now!! My apologies again for confusion of dates today  ........on the plus side I now have new upper and lower ball joints fitted, haven't road tested yet though as going to try the "bit o' string" method for checking the wheel alignment?! Old and new.
John Mack 342 Posted September 23, 2016 Out for a spin with the dog today. 110 miles done, quite a few thumbs-up from other drivers and folks walking.
John Mack 342 Posted October 12, 2016 Went down to the Monster-In-Law's on Friday, weather wasn't the best but took a few pics before the "accuspark malfunction" on Saturday!
John Mack 342 Posted July 21, 2017 :winner: It's one of those great feelings. MOT'd for another year today. Only 1500 miles since August last year. C.O. was a bit low at 0.14% (HC's at 132ppm) so I've turned out the idle screw a full turn. Sounds better now.
FKLGLS 44 Posted July 21, 2017 Lovely car that. :winner:
