thanks Noge and littlenewt,

i have got the gaiters now ;)

after spending a couple of hours looking around the local scrap yard at door and tail gait gaiters i found that the ones fitted to the suzuki wagon R or vauxhall agila tail gates are about prefect. the ends are oval so it makes them a little more awkward to fit but they are a small diameter and look good fitted. B) they cost me £10.00 for four although i did speak to a scrap yard in leeds that wanted £25 plus postage for 2 gaiters.needles to say that i did'nt buy em. i'll post some pictures later.

thanks for remembering.

cheers for your help. :magic:

I just bought one of these...

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574629005&toolid=10001&campid=5335900709&customid=&mpre=http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160889872451?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I got a solenoid boot lock from the same people, with any luck I picked the right key blank too :headscratch:

not got it yet but hope it all fits ok.

I am fitting escort electric windows but dont have the looms just yet, I hope to use the rubber boots which come with them...

As for altering these cars, I like the shape of mine, I bought a shell so have to find all the bits, I dont think I will be looking too hard for vinyl seats or a Harry moss 8 track with Binatone speakers.. :jester:

any way here goes.

as i said before, i went around the scrappy to look at various cars to see if i could find some door gaiters for the central locking on my mk3. i looked at lots of cars but all of the gaiters that i looked at were far to big/bulky for what i wanted. then i came across a suzuki wagon R and found that the gaiters fitted to the tail gate were spot on.

but there were only two gaiters fitted but i did manage to find a vauxhall agila in another scrap yard which is basically the same car so i was able to get 2 from the tailgate of that car.

and here they are.

doorgaiterx2.jpg

they are of a small diameter and ok for two wires to go through. i made a small template to get some idea of what size of hole i would need to fit them.

doorgaitertemplate.jpg

i've only fitted one so far but i think it looks good and dos'nt look too much out of place.

doorgaiterfitted-1.jpg

i paid £5.00 a pair for them which seems to be a good price to me.

in the coming weeks i'll get the other ones fitted and then look into getting a central locking kit.

i hope this is of some help to anyone else thinking of fitting gaiters for.

central locking,

electric windows,

door speakers,

electric mirrors.

thanks for looking,

graham.

I don't get it! A classic car is a classic for the way it is, why change it? Is it me? I won't give a second thought to a car that's been changed into a modern car. It's an old car with old faults built in, you want one? accept the faults and foibles.

I know where you are coming from Mike , alarm I can understand but I am happy to use a key to unlock the doors . I look at some of these cars with Zetec engine , rack and pinion steering etc etc and think why didnt they just buy a Focus :headscratch:

But each to his own.
