ROH 54Y 0 Posted July 25, 2012 Hi as I description where can I take a temp live fed from for daytime running lights as I only seem to have perminant lives on the ignition barrel ??
bazbiker 0 Posted July 25, 2012 I take it by temp live you mean ignition live? If so then you should have one on your ignition barrel!! But you will have better access to an ignition live off the fuse box plus it will be fused.
cortina-city 141 Posted July 25, 2012 are you going for dipped or side lights? if you are connecting across the lights you will find each lamp has its own fused feed, this is so if one lamp or fuse blows theres still one light left running. so its best not to jump a wire into the loom or you will create a bridge across the fuses, you need to seperated feeds to the lamps, individual feeds from same fused supply. so best way is a relay. so if you connect across the lamps its best to conect a wire to each lamp, then run them through a relay. connect the relay coil to the ignition switch feed, so when you switch on, the relay will energise, close its contacts and then it will supply an isolated feed to each lamp. connect the feed for the realy to say an inline fuse which you can hook up straight to the battery. can draw circuit diagram if you need. cortinapaul 7 Posted July 25, 2012 Fuse box, but why would you want to anyway :headscratch:
Nashy 4 Posted July 25, 2012 It's for the LED Daytime Running Lights that are fitted as standard (by law) to all new cars. They need to come on with the ignition and work independently of the side/head lights. On the back of my ignition barrel, I have got a negative, 2 permanent lives & a live when cranking it over which goes dead after its started. I need to find a temporary Live to run them from. Cheers, Aaron.
cortinapaul 7 Posted July 25, 2012 (edited) But yours isnt a new car ! and they looks shat on old cars  Edited July 25, 2012 by cortinapaul
dockertrigger 2 Posted July 25, 2012 This sounds like a bad plan, why don't you stick underbody neon's on and those light up washer jet whilst you at it too. ;) Seriously though, why would you want to fit them?, They looks silly and are bloody annoying on modern cars let alone too start fitting them to classic cars! stevewes 16 Posted July 26, 2012 Don't think they're law on new cars either - my 12 plate car doesn't have them. Plus as said, they look a bit shyte - leave 'em for the chavs in their Saxos :)
cortinapaul 7 Posted July 26, 2012 My volvos got them an im sick of them being on all the time suns out hid's glowin away stupid
G.O 20 Posted July 26, 2012 My 3 year old Golf has them. As I understand things, many new cars had them added as it was going to be made law, but then they never actually formally introduced it. Cars that had them designed in will still have them I guess. There should be a switched live on the back on the ignition switch though, I'd have though it should be the one the radio runs from
dgo 80 Posted July 26, 2012 DRLs should be connected to an ignition live and through a relay go off when sidelites are turned on. A friend of mine has done this from the fusebox underbonnet using the ignition live (can't remember which spade that is) and a relay so that when the sidelights (also taken from the fusebox) are turned on the circuit is cut. If you need I can check which terminals he used

Ghiaest 0 Posted July 27, 2012 These day time running lights are my BIGGEST bug bear especially on VW vans & Golfs they are so bright that I get momentarily blinded by the damned things, incidentally neither my Mazda 6 11 MX5 12 or my skoda octavia 12 have these retched things I would hate to irritate other drivers as much as they irritate me. mk3 dave 9 Posted July 28, 2012 There should be a black wire with a yellow stripe. This becomes live with the key at position II.
